  • I find Officeworks staff awesome in general, always friendly and knowledgeable and willing to help. But, if I want to get something laminated or printed on special stock, it takes forever at the non-self-serve printing counter!

Tell me the truth, do you guys deliberately put the dud employees behind that counter?

It's been the same in nearly all Officeworks I've been to, it's uncanny. I assume it must be some kind of conspiracy or there's some hiring pathway from Australia Post where you share employees or something… Enlighten me please.

    • well at my store it more comes down to the fact you only have 2 or 3 people behind the print and copy station and there's usually at least one person doing the booked in jobs such as binds or poster prints so there's usually a limited amount of people serving actual customers, and when people get to the counter they haven't sent emails yet which creates more of a wait. in regards to dud employees i mean not really some are just slower then others, generally the staff members during the day are better as they have more experience while the younger people with less experience are at night

  • Why do I have to buy a print card just to print five pages? The old system was better, where you'd print five pages, an invoice would come out with the cost of printing five pages, which you'd pay for at the registers

    • no idea its a company wide decision, as long as i have been there it's always been that way, you always have the option to go to the print and copy station and not worry about the card

Why is there a price match policy, when every time I try to price match anything, it gets denied? There is always a inane reason given like “it doesn’t apply to that product line” or “that’s not the same model, our model number has a W not a V” for an identical product, or my favourite, “that’s below our buy price.”

Are staff taught to try and dismiss all price beats first or making it near impossible so people give up in the hope they will just buy it anyway?

    • +1

the only products not qualified for the print beat guarantee are special order items every other item is included. but yes the product has to be exactly the same one difference in lettering means it doesn't qualify i know it's not ideal but that's the policy. in regards to cost price i guess it's at the discretion of the manager but its never been an issue for my store as we price beat items hundreds of dollars under the cost price if you ring up 1300OFFICE you can do a click and collect with a price match

Why do staff try every excuse under the sun to get out of price matching including "We can't price match because we'll lose money" BS.

    • if it's the same item and it's under cost price and they refuse ask to speak to the manager if you don't get anywhere, just ring up 1300office and make a click and collect with the price match as they are generally a lot more lenient, but personally i have never refused based on cost price alone

      • make a click and collect

Thanks for the suggestion but as the nearest OW is a 20 minute drive away I buy the item at the next best price elsewhere on my way home.

It might cost me a couple of dollars more but my time is worth more than that.

    • Ex Officeworks worker here and I find that pretty false. Everyone at my store actively tried to beat it if we could. But some requests are clearly different for whatever reason and weren’t entitled.

  • If I revealed a bug in your system that could be potentially be costing Officeworks thousands-hundred thousand(s). Would I be suitably rewarded? :D

    • +4

You will be rewarded by the OzBargain community when you make a new deal

    • i'm not aware of a bountry reward program but i mean email head office and give it a shot

Why do they insist on charging $25+ for delivery to any area outside a capital city?

    • no idea its a company wide policy i have found sometimes the delivery is sometimes cheaper if you head to our eBay store

  • Why?

    • Why not?

Sorry I'm not hosting an AMA

  • Are you responsible for checking the customers if they are shoplifting or do you leave that completely to the security?
Is it true that if someones steals something and makes a run for it, you are not supposed to chase him and leave it to the security?

    • As I’m mainly on the floor I am, We have a protocol we have if we suspect someone is shoplifting which we just watch them, if we know they have taken a product the door greeter will check there bags in high if they find something we take the product back and ask them to leave the store as my store does not have security if they run we can’t really do anything we just ask them to leave next time they come in
