Did They Reduce The Size of Domino's Pizza in The Last 2 Months or So?

Just got some, and the pizzas seem much smaller than before. Feels more like a mini size. The box is definately smaller than before, but not sure about the pizzas themselves. Did a quick measure, seems to be about 25cm in diameter, but I don't know if that's the regular size.

Pretty sure it happened last year. Not anything recently I know of

    • Any idea what the original size was?

      • 14" should be 35cm

        you're 10cm short

        sad :(

        • +1

? Where are the dominos pizza here advertised as 14 inches?

        • -2

          That's what she said

      • +1

Turns out it was 2017 (still daggers to my heart). They seemed to be reduced from 12" to 10" for the same price and still marketed as 'large'

        • +2

Still a large compared to the small which they also shrank.

Shrinkage while maintaining the price is one of the tricks of manufacturing / retail.

It's consistent with the law of relativity.

The universe expands as a measure of time, or perhaps time progresses as a measure of the universe.

Similarly, Domino's pizzas shrink inversely proportional to Z.

Domino's third law of pizza relativity.

I never knew Dominos also employed astrophysicists to adjust scale the size of their pizzas not just to accommodate CPI inflation / rise of employee wages but also expansion of the universe.

Can I order a pizza with extra dark energy?

        • You can order with extra dark energy, but you will never taste the difference.

Can I order a pizza with extra dark energy?

Way to elevate this garbage to near-celestial status. They should start with ensuring they're edible.
Cheer up. The dark energy comes several hours after consumption.

$3 extra for the extra large is the same size as the old large.

    • This.

    • +1

I love how they advertise the extra large for their value range $5 as being better value. Since when us paying 60% more for only 50% more pizza better value?

    • ….wow….

Happened with mcdonalds as well… people complained about the big mac shrinking, so the had the larger grand mac for a while. Now this with dominos. they hate to admit that they shrunk the size and will do anything to confuse people.

    • The Big Mac certainly isn't BIG anymore !!

  • +1

Yeah, I don't know about the timing but the last Dominos pizzas I ordered looked like pizzas for ants!

    • +1

Confirmed - ants in my house love Domino's

  • 2 for 1 code doesn't work with Melbourne range now.

They have been getting smaller over the years.
I think at least TWICE in the last 7 or 8 years.
I rememeber a few years ago that Eagle Boys made a big deal out of the difference in size between thiers and Dominoes.

So Dominoes no a longer LARGE size.

More like a small to medium size.
One hungry person can now easily conume an entire pizza

    • +2

One fat guy can eat 3. Just saying.

    • Are Eagle Boys still in business? Haven't seen their TV adverts in awhile or any adverts for that matter…..they still maker bigger slices than Dominos right, assuming they still in business?

      • They went bust last year. Dominos took over a lot of their sites.

        • oh……..any ideas why they went bust? Was it because people still favoured dominos or pizza hut even though they do bigger slices? Or….?

          • @Zachary: Did they go bust? Or were they just bought out (by Dominoes)? And I think that it was longer ago than last year when they disappeared from these parts.

I have an idea that Eagle Boys was a local, inland NSW company. I had some dealings with a local owner/manager when I lived in Wagga Wagga. (Not that I live very far away from there now.)

Edit: I just typed in eagle boys to my friendly search engine and was "rewarded" with a suggested site eagleboys.com.au which redirected to pizzahut.com.au

            • @Kandrew: …so I guess they were bought out by pizzahut then…..less competition……..hope pizzahut still serve eagleboys' signature larger than dominos sized pizza by default……

              • @Zachary: I don't think that Pizza Hut's large is as big as Eagle Boys' large was, but equally, I don't think it is as small as Dominoes'.

                It couldn't be, could it?

                • @Kandrew: Show us the dimensions…and I'll go order a random pizza from a local pizzahut place and measure the size….and I'll even take a picture of it for all you hungry folks to stare……whilst I tease you by eating a slice slowly………..

          • @Zachary: I got eagle boys a couple of times…maybe it was just the place near mine, but their pizzas always tasted like thin cardboard. Barely any cheese and terrible base. Not surprised when they went bankrupt.

  • They're just looking out for your health.

  • Yeah large at domino's is a joke. Domino's is shit anyway. Prefer a local pizza place over them

  • In a few countries I've been to, a large is generally 30cm or 28cm. Except for murica where it's larger and Ozzie where it's smaller

  • Domino's pizzas have always been generally small and thin in my experience. This has been the case for my local for the past 4-5 years. Pizza Hut have more robust pizzas for sure in my experience.

    • Took a look at the pizza hut site. Their pizzas are advertised as 11 inches (think dominos is 10 inches now?), slightly more expensive than Dominos (at least, if comparing their 3x large pizzas codes) but their pizzas have much higher calories listed. Not sure why theres such a large difference for only 1 inch more…maybe its a thicker base, more toppings or just plain inflating numbers.

I remember a couple of years back, I tried pizza hut, but the pizzas were like thin cardboard, barely had any cheese. Might have just been a bad store. Might give Pizza hut a try these days to see if they have improved though.

      • From my experience Pizza Hut pizzas are definitely thicker and overall "meatier" than Domino's. I only started eating Domino's more once their $5 pizzas came out which must have been around 2013-2014 or something. Never really had an issue with Pizza Hut, I remember back in 2011 or 2012 they had the voucher codes starting with "EPL" which I used regularly and the pizzas were pretty consistent and are still basically the same, but my local has always been pretty decent.

        • Oh, taste wise, how do they compare?

          • @Question: Um I guess it depends on what you prefer.. I personally usually order a Super Supreme when I go to Pizza Hut which I like well enough, but Domino's Fire Breather pizza is probably my favourite there. Both chains have decent tasting pizzas IMO.

So I ordered one just now for science!

        Here are results:

        Order details
Box on chair - I don't really have anywhere else to put it….
        Opened
        Measurement details 1
        Measurement details 2

        So yeah, 28cm confirmed…..

  • Dominos is pretty terrible value. Just look at the calorie count for most of their pizzas (4000-5000kj) vs Pizza Hut (7000-8000kj).

      • They're definitely bigger imo. I think the base is thicker too. I was just highlighting the calorie differences as evidence that dominos pizzas are lesser.

  • I just bought a Domino's Pizza for the first time in a couple of years. Eagle Boys was our pizza of choice before they disappeared. We used to occasionally use the vouchers $5.95 for a large supreme. Just prior to Eagle Boys disappearing we had noticed that the pizza and box had shrunk slightly. Now after buying my large Domino's Supreme it was only when I got it home and opened the box that I thought they had given me a small pizza. Apparently not. Couldn't believe my eyes. It had shrunk even further than the Eagle Boys initial shrinkage. For $13.95 I could not see value in it. After so long not having pizza it looks like it will be a while before I buy another one. I realise that this a common occurance with packets in the supermarket but the pizza seemed to be the more drastic shrinkage of all items. Not the end of the world and if this is my only problem then I'm doing Ok. Just thought I would vent. Now I feel better. I need to make myself a cheese sandwich as Im still hungry !!!

    • Uh, you arent supposed to pay full price for it, a traditional pizza is usually $7.95 via coupons.

      • is that a large or medium?

        • Theres only large and XL sizes now.

      • Never paid full price for a pizza in at least 15 years.

Went on vacation once and didn't have any vouchers/codes and was in shock at how much 4 pizzas cost, just walked out.
