Opinions of Smartwatches for Fashion

I've been doing some research about smartwatches and I've narrowed down to a few possible candidates:

I work in tech, so smartwatches are a good look to add a little to your palate. Currently with an iPhone 6S as my phone too.

Wondering if any of you would have any opinions about particular smartwatches (whether to get them or avoid them).

The thought triggered because of the Samsung Gear S3 deal that popped up recently…

Currently with an iPhone 6S as my phone too.

Then Apple Watch is really your only option. Unless you’re planning on getting a new phone soon.

    • Not really the only option, but god damn if you have the money to spare, the Apple Watch 4 is awesome. It's so good! I love mine so much, it just works! :)

      • What makes it so good to you? Is it the natural integration within the Apple ecosystem (because they are so closed off to literally anything else)? I can feel the integration between my MacBook and my iPhone, is the feeling the same?

        • Honestly it's a combination of the integration and it just working, like Apple products do. With minimal setup, it can work perfectly, but if you'd like to customise it then you can! You have so many different watch face options, you can choose to have Weather, notes, Spotify, a shortcut to start a workout, whatever you like. The watch face can be anything from Buzz Lightyear, to Mickey Mouse with his hands as the clock hands who tells you the time when you tap him, to a butterfly, to a photo collage of your choice.

I love the customisation, but I also love the integration. I can answer a call on my Watch and then transfer it to my iPhone. All my notifications are mirrored onto my watch, I get a text message and my watch will tap my wrist (side note - I LOVE this haptic touch, it feels sooo good whenever you get a notification), I just raise my wrist, the screen comes on and shows who and what the message was, lower my wrist and screen turns off. You can even customise this so that the screen stays off until tapped, or disable or edit notifications for specific apps according to your preferences.

I just really love it, I would definitely recommend it. Let me know if you have any other questions :)

oh my god i just remembered - my favourite feature! your watch can unlock your mac if you're next to it!

I sit down, open my MacBook, screen comes, on, says unlocking with Watch, 2 seconds later I'm in. It's awesome! And it doesn't have a large radius, so you won't have to worry about someone else unlocking it, it will only unlock if your Watch is next to the Mac. Your watch even taps you to let you know that it's unlocked your Mac, I love it!

Plus the Apple Watch supports Apple Pay, so you can leave your phone at home and go for a run down to the shops and buy a bagel or something! Especially with the new Apple "no-fee" credit card coming out, it'd be neat to have that on your wrist. Any ANZ or Commbank card can also go into Apple Pay, if you already have one of those, so it'll work. Anyway, enjoy! Let me know if you have any other questions :)

  • Like jjjaar said above. Apple Watch only works on iPhone, Samsung Watch only works on Android.

  • With Apple you're pretty limited to which watch to use. As much as I like what the Apple Watch can do, I find it a bit ugly IMO.

Personal preference, but I prefer round watch faces. TicWatch is another one I would consider if you're on Android.

  • Plenty of $10 straps for Apple Watch. I have a number of silicone sports colours to match my shirts and a leather as well as Milanese loop for formal days.

  • Samsung smartwatches do work with iPhones but they’re very limited in functionality compared to when they’re paired to a Samsung phone.

I feel like anyone buying that should hand back their OzBargain membership card.

      • Maybe we need Tightarse to negotiate a deal for us ;)

  • If you work in tech, note that typing with a watch on when you're not used to it is really annoying. I would start with a normal watch first and see if you like wearing it. No use spending several hundred dollars on something just to find it lives in a drawer.
