Pixel XL Warranty Upgrade to Pixel 2 XL

Moved to Forum: Original Link

Hi all. My OG pixel died yesterday. Contacted Google, it was 3 days out if warranty. Not only did they honor the warranty, they are upgrading it to a Pixel XL 2 for free as they don't have any Pixel XL left. So if you have a Pixel xl that is nearly out of warranty, and has a bad battery, might want to get onto Google.

Mine was a Pixel XL 128gb, so YMMV if you have any other variant.

    Nice OzBrag.

For Google to honour this you have to have bought through the Google Store.

When the Nexus 6P came out, I bought it (day 1) from Google store, and due to the phone dying at the end of warranty and no 6P's left in stock, I got upgraded to a Pixel. Loved that and then it died and I got upgraded to a Pixel XL, the screen broke on that (my fault) but then the power plug in the phone refused to work so I sent it back and they ended up refunding me the original purchase price of the 6P which covered about a 80% of the Pixel 2 that I got through them.

All of these was managed really well from Google's end.

Needless to say, I'll continue to buy phones through the Google Store. Who knows when I'll have to actually pay full price for one though.

    • Brag? I don't get it. It wasn't purchased from the Google store, and I didn't even buy it new.

I actually had a similar experience to you with my old nexus 5 I bought from the Google store. Had the classic power button failure 3 times over about 3 years, and at the end they just gave me a full refund. Impressive service.

Just trying to let people know that now is a great time to put their pixels in for warranty.

Lol, what was your post then?

From a different perspective, every phone you've had from Google has died under warranty. That doesn't seem a great record for quality control.

Thought I better get in on the game!

Somewhat true, although it would be fair to say I am an extremely heavy user and two of those problems were battery related which is common across most phones. 6P was technically 2 months out of warranty but they helped me out.

        • So you're the reason they keep having to increase the price of the handset each year?

          • @Kangal: Haha single handedly!

Although if you check the OPs post, apparently they just give away phones to people that buy them second hand out of warranty.

            • @serpserpserp: I actually purchased it in warranty, it was a warranty return that the owner sold as soon as he received it.
