Warranty Returns to China--Who Pays?

Hi,recently had a $350 Hantek digital oscilloscope go kaput 8 months into a 3 year warranty.

Got hold of seller in AliExpress, they gave me contact for manufacturer. I contacted the maker (Hantek) support and the said send to seller. Seller then said, send but it will cost a lot!!!!——no figure mentioned, but AP cost $65.

The real question here is, should this be a cost of either seller or maker—-not my cost.

Best regards

PS: FWIW ebay.au have a policy that seller pays for postage both ways.

    You pay. Aliexpress != eBay

Try Sendle and see if they are cheaper: https://try.sendle.com/pricing

  • You'd have to cite something from AliExpress for us which stipulates the seller has to bear the cost of warranty shipping for international customers.

That will be the job for Ozb commentators here.

  • You pay if you want to get it fix

This is the risk you took when saving some money and buying from AliExpress. Unfortunately if they don't want to cover the costs there is not much you can do.

If you had purchased from a reputable Australian seller you would have had more options.

    Mexico pays

    • The return postage just got $10 dollars more expensive.

  • If you paid by PayPal you could get funded returns up to $45, so wouldn't cost you as much

    • Has to be activated first ;)

Actually I activated it after a purchase and used it successfully

        • Really? Never used to be that way but I guess you're either lucky or they don't care

    • Since when does AliExpress accept Paypal?

Never expect warranty when you purchase online ( even 1 month or 10 years warranty ).
If they accept you have to pay postage for delivery.( they never pay ).

  • It's not unreasonable for you to pay postage, in fact it's a bit unreasonable for them to wear it. Margin is too low to cover things like this.

  • thanks for all your replies

  • 8 months into a 3 year warranty.

PRC's consumer protection only provides a 6 months warranty. Count yourself lucky that they're accepting a return and send it back as quickly as possible.

  • hi whooah1979 what is PRC's consumer protection.
Hantek (maker) claim a 3 year warranty

    • It's the PRC's version of the ACL.
