Living near Power Lines, Is It Actually Bad?

Hello All,

Just after some opinions and if available any evidence, of whether or not it is actually harmful to be living near powerlines.

What are your thoughts?

Is there any evidence to back up the claim of it actually being harmful and increase ones chance of getting cancer?

As to why I'm asking is because I'm considering some land that's 50 meteres from powerlines.

Curious to hear your thoughts!

You win everything. Proximity to high voltage lines, plus a tower behind, plus a substation, plus proximity to train lines…. are you sure there's no mine subsidence or bushfire / flood risk?
Sorry to hear about your dad-in-law though :-(

      • Cheers mate. He was operated on in early 2015 which was successful. Four years on and nothing has returned so it's looking good.

Funny you should raise that, towards the bottom of the street there was some flood risk :)
Interestingly enough, it still commanded a decent rent p/w. The owners ended up kicking us out to sell the house which then stayed on the market for what seemed like a year and then they rented it out again. It finally sold in 2011 for a pretty ordinary price ($408K). It's valued higher now as somehow the powers to be did some boundary trickery and re-zoned it from much less desirable Bald Hills to up-market Carseldine.
