  • does TX-800 has bluetooth for audio out?

    • +1

No - the little GS1 does but not this one!

  • Could you give a quick rundown of the differences between these two models? Thanks!

    • +4

      Yep!

The W1700 is a Home theatre projector - designed to be used in a light controlled room (curtains closed etc)

The TK800 is Data projector - can be used with more ambient light.

They are basically the same but one is better in bright, one is better for a theatre.

    • +2

I would take the TK800. It is brighter but less colour accuracy (RGBW wheel). Currently I got a RGBRGB wheel projector (better Color, less bright) and I am looking forward to swap for something brighter. It depends what you are after. You will find different opinions on internet

      • Rainbow effect used to get me. Have they been able to do anything about that in the last 10 years since I last tried one?

        • Yep - not even an issue any more :)

10 years is a long time - plasma TV's were still a new things 10 years ago !!

  • With refurbished projectors - is there any indication of how long the bulbs have been used for? It definitely makes me nervous since projectors have a limited life-span when it comes to bulbs.

    • +1

Usually less than 20 hours unless we note otherwise

The models have up to 15,000 hours on the globes and a new globe is $229

It is more likely you will replace the projector than run out of hours on the globe :)

      • Oh wow, thank you!

      • So just to clarify, the TK800 would have roughly 3980 hours left in normal mode?

      • Another question - how have a lot of these projectors been used? Are they returned units that had defects?

  • +2

    That is an awesomeness price!!!

  • Title says Tk800…site says tx800.

    • +1

Yep - working on our spelling now :) - Thank you

      • +1

Just got a tk800. Just thought weird the payment method…no card payment options?

        • Yep - Global company and cant do credit card - go figure! :)

    • Fixed it - :)

  • +1

Tempting. If I had the money right now I'd probably be buying one.

Looks like W1700 is also known as HT2550 in the US:
    https://www.avforums.com/review/benq-w1700-review.14747

    So this review would apply:

Damnit I forgot to measure my screen <> lens distance from my W1070 over the weekend, now I bet they all sell out before I can measure it to make sure I can reuse the mounting location!

    • :) - First world problems - Fingers crossed for you though!

    • +2

Too easy mate. 1070 has 3x zoom, this one has 2x. It will have a little bigger throw ratio than yours if you have room to move it a little further from screen you are fine

  • +1

OP, just a little website feedback: When I try and compare these two through the compare function it doesn't include anything from the Specifications table on each product page… seems like it makes the compare thing pretty redundant in reality… Maybe integrate it?

    :)

  • The 1700 or wait for the new 2700 as a replacement for my W1070 any advise or word on release date?

    • +1

You can wait for the 2700. It will be better but for at least twice this price. I don't see why wait for it unless you are willing to pay a lot of more

    • Yep - will be on show this week in Sydney and available for purchase next week at many good retailers!

  • +1

This is a really good deal, the projector also supports 3D (at 1080p) which many of the current 4k DLP projectors do not.

The only huge let down (for me at least) is very high input lag, making it unsuitable for FPS gaming. This is a drawback that applies to all 4k DLP projectors that use the TI chip, and will possibly/likely affect the new upcoming models also.

    • Not true at all - :)

      W1210ST has 11ms LAG
      X12000H, W11000H have 33ms lag

Both new BenQ 4K DLP projectors (w2700 and W5700) support 3D out of the box

As for lag time on these models, I would imagine with the image smoothing on it will be higher but will wait to see what the factory measurements are.

  • I just replaced a globe on my old 1080 projector… if I knew this deal was coming I'd be going 4K.

    • Arghhhh - I hate that! :(

    • Double pressed [ENTER] key

  • Good prices!

I didn't realise both these projectors don't have any lens shift though. I'm so used to it for quick setup that I think it'd be a pain without it. Still using an old W1100 that so far is up to the task for most things

    • +1

The new W2700 has Vertical lens shift and the W5700 has both horizontal and vertical - makes installation so much easier

      • +1

Awesome - will have to save my pennies and/or hope for some clearance deals when the new models land so I can grab a W2000…

        • +1

Check out the deal on W2000 at Just Projectors - They are cleaning some space!!

  • Hi, my current w1070 is about 4m from the screen. Would the w1700 still be roughly same size screen at that distance or would it be too large?

      • Oh man, didnt realise it would have such a smaller screen.
It goes from 3m wide to 2.5m wide.
Thing is, I just ordered it before seeing your reply (not yet paid).
Not sure what to do now.

        • The W2700 is the perfect fit for the W1070 - it is the exact same throw ratio - :(

          • @OZzieME: Indeed, but over double the price.
I still have to cancel this w1700 order as well :(

            • +1

@ReqMan: no worries - will be worth it - the upgrade over the W1700 is impressive :)

Just send the team a message to cancel the order of call 1300 130 336 tomorrow

              Cheers,

              Matt

              • @OZzieME: Thanks Matt, will do.

When will the W2700 be available, and will it be via the same store or another retailer?
Also, can you tell us briefly why the w2700 is a big step up from the w1700?
                Cheers

                • +2

@ReqMan: In a couple of weeks and I would not think so - being a new model we would not expect to see any units on the BenQ store for a while. The biggest reason for the step up is the new DLP chip. It is even better than the first generation. The first generation had a large light border, the new gen does not have that. The W2700 has a dynamic Iris (for better blacks), lens shift for easier installation, motion smoothing … the list goes on a bit!

  • What's the best way to set up a wireless connection with the TK800

    • For wireless HDMI? Buy a wireless HDMI kit from somewhere like eBay or Altronics :)

      • What are your thoughts on the wireless dongles

        • +1

          For HDMI - Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! :)

  • I think with all this in mind I will wait for the 2700. Will there be any release promotions on the 2700 early bird special maybe :)

    • +1

Nope - just fricken awesome pricing!

      $2499 incl GST :)

  • Having a lot of faulty units to repair and then resell is a bit of a worry.

    • I just called Benq. Some more TX800 demo units will be checked and put up tomorrow. They are not faulty units and were used at trade shows.

      • +1

Spot on :) - depends on how you look at things - glass half empty or half full :)

Returns from shows, demo units returned, ox or carton damaged!

Once it has been out of a box it is no longer new - we would not repack a unit and call it new

BenQ about to release true 4K projectors. Clearing old stock

    • +2

These are True4K projectors - not clearing anything!!

      • This isn't true 4k. It uses pixel shift on 1080p image.

        • +1

This is True 4K - I am not sure what you mean?

          https://www.projectorcentral.com/4k-projectors-defined.htm

          • @OZzieME: No this is what they say (https://wccftech.com/review/benq-ht2550-vs-tk800-4k-uhd-hdr-…) :-

The way they accomplish this is by pixel switching (XPR). The chip itself has 1080p pixels but after projecting the first batch of 1080p pixels it shifts 1 pixel to the right and projects another set of pixels and so on. Your brain blends the image together and what you see is an utterly gorgeous true 4K image. A native 4K projector might have a slight edge over these but I have seen both up close and my eyes could discern no visible difference between an XPR-ed 4K image and a native 4k image at viewing distance while the difference between a 1080p PJ and an XPR 4k one is night-and-day.

  • Without lens shift, very hard to set it up right. I use lens shift for all my projector installs. I didn't realise they still make projectors without them…

    • +1

W2700 or W5700 (New models) will assist you with this!

  • -2

This isn't true 4k. It's the pixel shift technology to duplicate the 1080p image to make it seem like 4k.

    • +2

It's not Pixel shifting - thats what Epson and JVC do.

The Texas Instruments Ti chip uses wobulation (moving a mirror) 4 times to produce 8.3 Million individually addressable pixels - hence True 4K

      https://www.projectorcentral.com/4k-projectors-defined.htm

Its still real / true 4K - just a different way of doing it :)

      • +1

  • @OZzieME What is the return policy (we're located in Sydney CBD)?

I've been tasked with finding a replacement projector for our boardroom that can be used in the daytime with the lights on. The old one is a basic Casio from back in 2012 which is really washed out and lacks contrast (even in the dark). I'm not sure what the screen is made of unfortunately.

I'd like to give the TK800 a go, but need a contingency if it doesn't quite give the upgrade the bosses are looking for (they're thinking of replacing the whole setup with a cheap 75" TV). Not sure if I'm being unrealistic in that scenario?

    • @xdirex - as these are refurbished the return is only if faulty, not for change of mind I am afraid.

If you are in Sydney though come down to the office and try one out before you make a decision - compare our space to yours and see what you think.

These things are bright and work well in an office.

      Hope that helps!!

      Cheers,

      Matt
