download size is roughly 55 GB across all platforms.

    • +3

It'll probably take all of April to finish downloading it.

    • +1

Thanks for that, first thing I check because I'm still on ADSL2+.

      • same same but different

      • Can't be that bad can it? When I was on adsl2+ I still got about 9megabit down and got roughly 1mb/sec download speed, this would have the game downloaded in 15.27hrs… I went from adsl2+ to hfc nbn and now have 50/20 megabit and even I would only download it in about 3 hrs and seeing i've seen this late at night, it wouldn't matter if i did have adsl2+ cos I'm gonna have to wait till tomorrow after work to play it anyway.. Unless it takes you considerably more than a day or two to download a game u get for roughly a month, the download time is insignificant imo.

        • I get 15mb/s downstream on good day which is more than enough for me but the problem is that there are five adults using this single 15mb connection. So it becomes very unstable and the distribution of bandwidth is not that great. So one minute I could be getting 10mb/s directly to my PC but the next I could be getting 1mb/s.
If I had a stable 5mb/s connection all to myself I wouldn't complain at all. We are getting FTTN in a few months which should be an improvement at the very least.

      • i am on 200G quota that is doomed….

    • +2

      106 GB on PC.

      • Can confirm :(

  • +1

Do I have to own main game? How do I get it on my xbox One.

    • +13

if you own the game you already have blackout…..

    • +1

No you dont have to own the main game.
As mentioned below, this is a test to see if they should make blackout free to play.

It should be somewhere in the xbox store. However I can not confirm as I dont have an xbox

  • +2

Can’t find the download on Xbox

  • Is this game any good?

    • +2

      yes and no.

    • +5

Blackout Hardcore is really good - Blackout is … the most polished of the Battle Royal games. I only got this COD for the BR mode.

      • +1

Better than Apex? By a long way?

        I'm currently addicted to Apex

        • Sorry - my bad, I haven't played Apex Legends. Can't comment on that.

    • +6

If you like COD games it's pretty good.

On the silliness to realism scale for military shooter battle royale it probably goes:

COD: Blackout -> BFV: Firestorm -> PUBG

I prefer PUBG but it's the least polished of the three.

I'd love to play more of Firestorm but I only play duos and that option isn't available yet.

      • Umm… If you like COD games from the last six or so years then you'll probably enjoy this one, it's just as terrible as those.

If you liked COD when they were actually good then you're not going to want anything to do with this one.

I don't often regret purchases but I really wish I didn't waste money on Black Ops 4.

        • +1

Yeah, I want COD: Modern Warfare (the first one) with Battle Royale.

Apparently Modern Warfare 4 is out this year but not sure if they're doing BR.

Every time I play Blackout and see people flying around with grapple guns, wearing multicoloured samurai outfits and wingsuiting from buildings I let out a sigh and shake my head…

        • I don't often regret purchases but I really wish I didn't waste money on Black Ops 4.

Hah I'm in exactly the same boat.

This was the game that made me go why am I being a moron buying a full price game with free to play mechanics that are worse than Fortnite, a free game.

          Activision can go to hell.

      • You missed a couple.

Fortnite -> Ring of Elysium -> COD: Blackout -> BFV: Firestorm -> PUBG

PUBG was too buggy for me.

RoE is amazing for a free game. It's like PUBG, but rates higher on the "silliness" meter because you can pull a glider or BMX out of your pocket.

        • +1

          I didn't include Fortnite …. It's more like Looney Toons with a Lego set… 😀

Ring of Elysium looks interesting but I'm on Xbox and it's PC only I believe.

        • +2

          What about Warframe and Apex?

        • +1

Apex is the best of all the BR genre games easily.

          • +1

@Typical16-bitEnjoyer: I downloaded shortly after launch and played for about 25 minutes. Haven't touched it since.

Never really been into the futuristic stuff though.

I've yet to be drawn away from PUBG, with all its wonderful flaws… 😁

            • +1

@Cheapo Moose: Eh? PUBG AU servers going down for 6 months is sorta an enormous flaw lol

            • +1

@Cheapo Moose: I played Apex for about 30mins too and havnt opened it since. Personally getting over BR games though and don't play much of em nemore.

  • This is an experiment. It will go permanently f2p and separated from CoD if it becomes a success during that month, as far as revenue. They've been keeping a close eye on other f2p BRs for sure.

    • +4

Probably following Apex !! Crazy how much these games rake in $$$ wise

      • +2

        Gotta get them cosmetics!

    • Source?

      • Source insisted on anonymity.

Journalist-source confidentiality agreement. You know how it works.

Need base game for those wondering

    • black out isn't dlc, it comes on disc. for this its probably a download trail of the game with everything bar blackout locked.

    • +3

Ignore this guy for those wondering.

  • +13

Thank you Apex Legends for increasing the bar on quality BR :)

  • I'm on PS4 and just tried it but it says 'Blackout trial is not available' Purchase the full game to continue playing

Should it be working by now?

    • +1

I can't even find it on the PSN store =\

      • Yeah I can't find it either. You search for Call of duty <anything> and get hundreds of results - all the weapon packs and so forth.

        A link would be great!

    • +3

Might be April 2nd in USA, not in Aus.

      • Ahhhh yes, of course!

      • Yeah would be imo, try again tomorrow morning or around 8-9pm tonight (AEST)

        • Or it's just an April fools

          • @Ostrk: Weird thing to april fools, maybe if they said they were adding building to the game lol

            • +1

@JMxoxo: It was no joke. The game is now available to try for free on Battle.net until April 30.

  • Thank you very much OP. Noob question, does this include the solo campaign? Not too interested in BR.

    • +2

      No SP in blops 4

      • +1

Thanks, I didn't realise that. Definitely saved me a lot of time, will be tough to dl 55gb on a 12Mbps connection.

  • +2

I can barely find a game in Blackout for PC. Hope this fixes it and i can start enjoying it again

    • Probably will increase traction. I remember I pre-ordered BO3 and the servers were dead. CoD hasn't been doing well on PC last few games.

  • Looks like a good game. It's been a while since I played a CoD game. Multiplayer only is unlikely to keep me playing after longer than the free month.

  • +3

Hopefully this brings people to the game. There's no games on PC now.

    • +1

Friend was complaining about that a couple months ago, said even on launch it could take some time on off peak periods

    • I own it on Xbone and look everything aside it is the best of the polished BRs out there. Im taking the advantage of the f2f on PC as im trying to get back more into M/KB play style. Its a good game. Hopefully i see you on the PC map!

      • +2

I have it on Xbone as well. People actually play it on that.

On PC they don't. One time on a Wednesday night I left it in queue for 6 hours and didn't find a game.

Firestorm could go that way soon too. It takes a few minutes to join a game in firestorm but 10 seconds in Apex.

        • Firestorm isn't even using Australian servers or so I read?

          • +1

@Kozhutki: I think it's an issue with matchmaking with a lower population. Most matches I've played are fine, but occasionally you get placed in another region (I assume).

Otherwise it's a fun game, both BFV in general and the Firestorm mode. It's a pity the game got off to such a negative start - I think it's highly underrated. Hopefully they go F2P with Firestorm soon.

  • +6

Game is dead on PC so don't bother.

    • is F2P doesn't revive the game….nothing will

    • I found you were right. I've waited a few hours for a game (with the game minimised of course) at different times during the past several days. I couldn't find a game.

      • Sorry to hear you wasted your dl for it :/. Sucks that CoD never lasts on PC outside of the first couple of months but there's so many other better games so everyone kinda leaves CoD.

  • +1

I'd assume since I'm not finding a download option on PC that this means it will start tomorrow (April 2nd in America)

  • +1

    are there achievements?

  • might actually get a full lobby again

  • Is it only multiplayer or is there a singleplayer / campaign option?

  • +1

hmm, looks like it is multiplayer only and i wasnt able to load a game as it just kept searching for one? what waste i downloaded the 125Gb onto 2 different gaming pcs.

  • Took a few days to download a game no one is playing and I can't play on the trial.

I can see why they wanted to put it out to trial, pity it didn't work
