Thoughts on Dell Outlet these days?

Hi,

Seeing a lot of good deals on the Dell Outlet these days. Wondering what people's experience are with buying from here? Are their refurbs reliable? Looking specifically at an XPS.

Cheers

Using an Inspiron right now. My last refurb was like new. Few minor scratches, but hardly noticeable. Their warranty is the same as their new computers. Since the new re-design of their outlet site, I feel that prices have gone up though.

Price went all in general since Michael Dell took the company private.

      I feel that too.

The Latitudes have 3 year NBD onsite warranty instead of 1 year now.

Bought a couple of monitors from the them the last 2 years, looked brand new to me but only 1/3 the price.

Can also recommend Dell Outlet for an Inspiron Laptop

Purchased a "as new" monitor, all good near half price …. cables all still sealed, all just as new. Just the purchase/payment process is a bit of a pain.

Have bought four monitors from them over the last 3 years. Never had an issue with any of them. 3 'refurbished' and 1 'as new'. Have nearly bought a laptop from them but haven't pulled the trigger yet. Prices I think have drifted up 5-10% over the years but still much better than retail for a product that feels and operates like brand new.

All good here - "as new" looked brand new and refurb goods have barely had scratches. Haven't had any issues on both monitors and laptops yet; ironically the only issue I've had is on a brand new charger I bought separately (not from the outlet). Laptop batteries seem to be at typical new capacity too.

Payment/purchasing is a bit of a pain as you can't just add it to the cart and go. Otherwise I'm happy and a repeat customer.

  • Thanks for the input all. Took the plunge on a 9570. Will let you know how it goes.

I got an i5 latitude from there. I was expecting alot more from a latitude, but my friend said that there was screen issues where it didn't turn on sometimes, even the pc is obviously on.

But my friend just beared with it, since it was a latitude i5-7XXXU ssd 8gb ram and 1080p for less than 600. He was so happy with it, that he didn't even use his 1 year warranty to fix the screen lol. Been one and a half year since.

    • "but my friend said that there was screen issues where it didn't turn on sometimes, even the pc is obviously on."

Your friend should have exercised the NBD onsite warranty to get the components replaced.

Might have been the sensor on the motherboard or the screen..

      • Hey, apparently, Netflix and chilling by himself everyday is more important than getting it fix. So you know, he kinda deserved it.

        • "So you know, he kinda deserved it."

          Lol

  • If you buy a Dell, make sure you buy one with 3 years warranty. Their warranty service is excellent as turn around time is quick and parts are usually available, but I don't trust their refurbished laptops any longer and given they used to come with 1 year warranty I will avoid if thats what you get.

Bought a Latitude Laptop for my son, about 11 months, the laptop kept rebooting. Called Dell came out and they replaced almost everything inside, motherboard, hard disc, memory.

Now, another Dell Latitude Laptop I bought for my daughter which is about 1.5 years old is giving problems. It will shut off, and fail to start. Test on startup said memory issue, but could be battery issue as well. Yet to log a service call, but will try and get it fixed by Statutory warranty or via my credit card which provides one year extended warranty.

Two Refurbished Latitude laptops both less than 2 years old, all have major issues. I don't know whether in general Dell Laptops are crap or just the refurbished ones.

      Which series were they?

I have had 3 refurbs, 1 was a lemon that pretty much got everything replaced.
But I know some "refurbs" are eval units (built for demonstration purposes and sample units to customers but can't be resold "as new")

    So just to update everyone, I ended up buying a xps 9570 i7 / 16gb / 512gb / 4k / 1050Ti listed as "refurbished" for $2,029 vs new price of $3,059.

Received it a couple of days later and it's pretty much like new. One barely noticeable scratch on the top that you can only really see in certain lighting it's so faint. The only other comment would be a tiny bit of light bleed at the bottom of the screen, although this appears to be quite common with the xps. Again, barely noticeable unless you really try to see it. Love the machine, it's exactly what I wanted. Definitely had a good experience so far FWIW.
