Should I Transfer My 110k AmEx Points to Emirates?

I have around 110k points in my AMEX card and I have 40k miles in my Emirates account. Since the conversion rate is 3:4 I will end up with around 120k miles. Is that good enough to find some good deals to trade my miles for a flight, hopefully in business/first class? Long distance economy is also interesting.

Or should I use my miles in another airline with higher chance of getting a good deal? The third option would be to use the 110k points to pay for my expenses…

What do you guys think?

I plan on transferring to Asia miles or singapore airlines before the 14th

    • Yeah so do I, before the devaluation. I called American Express to check if they could double my points to maintain the value but they told me that only old time customers will have that privilege.

How long have you been a customer for amex?

        • less than 6 months

          • @dealer453: 3 years here and they told me no as well

5 years now, Platinum Reserve, and also a no for me when I asked to retain points value.

Emirates generally has expensive redemptions compared to Cathay or Singapore - I would say if you have to ask whether you can find good value redemptions with them, the answer is very likely no.

I live in the UAE and will be transferring my miles to Cathay for the J redemptions to HK, and perhaps onwards to Sydney.

          • @ninjawarrior: i have been a 8 year customer. They told me no, called me up a few days after and offered me 5000 points.

Thinking SQ too but expire in 3 yrs just be aware of that…

  • Emirates is relatively expensive and tight availability when it comes to award availability. Since June last year, awards on CX have become like hens teeth. SQ is the preferred option for many.
