Telstra New Phone Feeling

Has anyone been able to retain their $49 a month plan and upgraded to a new phone (3xl or samsung s10+?)

I've discussed the topic with the online chat aswell as in store, and both times have been told that my plan is not eligible (it's a sim only plan)or that an aditional fee will be added for the new handset once activated.
I have checked on the tesltra app it's states that i'm eligible and due to be activated from the 06/04/19 on wards.

    From the top comment of the thread. You return your current phone, and then recontract onto a NEW plan. You don't keep your old plan.

    Sim only plans don't come with a phone, so they're not going to let you have a new phone. They usually trade like for like on mobile plans, so I guess the app is correct in the sense that you could get nothing new to replace nothing old.

    Your $49 a month plan was a BYO 12 month contract?
    The App is probably telling you that you can sign up to a new 2 year contract including a device… most likely for more than $49 a month, though.

    • It was a port in number - for a 24 month contract, if that makes a difference? - might be my optimism to get a new handset
