Has anyone tried the Chinese counterfeit Lego?

    • Not sure why the neg.

Some people simply cannot afford Genuine lego. I haven't personally used it, but it would be suitable no doubt.

      • -5

Can't afford, so stealing i.e ripping off intellectual property is OK?

        Gotcha.

        • +1

Get over it. If Lego like products from China is your main concern when it comes to China that's your prerogative.

I take it you've also never streamed/downloaded pirated content. Good for you mate.

@Frayin: Lego is not made in China

            • @Whiltshire: I know, that's why I said Lego like.

            • +1

@Whiltshire: Umm..Lego has had a factory in China since 2016… It's in Jiaxing

              • @Kenb0: Lego is globally manufactured in at least 5 countries (probably more by now): Denmark, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Mexico and China.

There are no individual Lego sets that are entirely produced in one country (from the box to the manual to all of the pieces inside).

        • I buy it because I don't want to spend $600 on a discontinued set. But hey feel free to support the "little guy" in these instances

Just check on YouTube lots of review of those Chinese lepin for almost all famous models

    • Yeah, Lepin's great. Snaps on just like Lego. plenty of different brands as well. Check out /r/lepin for reviews.

      • Lepin is total rubbish. This company is such a disgrace and stealing all the ideas from Lego.

      Lepin is garbage.

It's possibly excusable in the case of display-only models, for retired and highly desirable sets that cost 4-5 times their original RRP on the resale market. Though I still refuse to support them due to the fact that they are notorious even among Lego clone manufacturers for never producing a single original design and only shamelessly copying existing Lego sets. The Lego Group actually won a landmark court case against Lepin in China back in August 2018 for infringing on their copyrights.

Other than that, for in-production Lego, there's absolutely no reason anyone should be buying Lepin, unless you want:

      • No outer box.
      • No numbered bags.
      • Knock-off manual with Chinglish, inaccurate instructions and misspelled sticker sheets.
      • Missing pieces, broken pieces, the wrong pieces for your set, bent or deformed pieces with no parts replacement policy from the seller.
      • Weak brick clutch with some parts refusing to stay together and requiring super-glue.
      • Weird oily residue on bricks.
      • Poor brick tolerances leading to pieces not fitting together as intended.
      • Supporting the scummy Chinese clone and counterfeiting industry.

Good write-up on Lepin's piss-poor quality control here.

      • This guy Lepins

    • Our Grimes bought them from eBay. Strangely each packet had assault rifles

Wish the T1 is on sale too

    • https://brickhawk.com/set/10220 - looks like the BigW deal recently was the best in terms of larger retailers. Smaller retails have had better prices but their postage costs often negate their lower price.

Target had the cooper at $99 a month or so ago, Beetle $99 now. Maybe we'll see them drop the T1 Camper down to something like $109 or $119 next month, and Amazon will price match for a little more with cashback deals.

I think the rectangular windshield kills the resemblance. It looks more like a kubelwagen.

    • Well the real Kubelwagen was based heavily on the VW Beetle of its day. Basically it was a militarised version of the original Beetle.

  • is this one worth investing?

Think not , been selling for around 3 yrs and still plenty of stock around locally and overseas.
