Best Budget Projector?

Hello,

I'm looking for a projector to be beamed directly onto a white wall.

I have a Sony X900E 4K TV that is in my bedroom - so I'm looking for something that is at least comparable (the screen size of the projector makes up for any shortcomings in terms of image quality)

I'd be happy with something that's around the $500 mark (ideally even less). I know this is unrealistic, but the cheaper the better, anything that will wow me. It's a first projector, so there would definitely be a novelty there regardless.

Also - I might not be able to mount it in the most ideal place. It'll be positioned about 4m away from the opposite wall, but might be slightly to the side. If this isn't possible, I'm sure I can make something work though.

Any suggestions welcome - even outside my specs here. No experience with projectors and don't know the various factors. Thanks!

  • I got an Epson EHTW5600 with 20% off videopro @ ebay. Great projector.

    • I have the TW6600 bought on gumtree for around $600 last year. Extremely bright and produces good colours, even supports 3D.

Cheap to run, lamp replacement is only $160.

      • Sounds like an amazing deal - am a little nervous with second hand projectors as I hear they are quite fragile + the issue of lamp care

    • What did this come down to with the 20%? 796, or did they price jack? THanks!

  • I'm in the same boat, will probably just save up for a more expensive model. Paying $$$ for a 1080p projector just seems like a poor investment in 2019.

    • Although I definitely am worried that some of the more budget 4K models would skimp on other features, when a much cheaper 1080p projector could even theoretically look better in some cases. Agree that ideally a 4K projector would be good, hence interest in the TK800 or the W1700

    • Depends how big your room is, we have a 720p sitting around 5m from screen with a 2m diagonal and I've never had a single complaint about resolution.
People are too blown away by the sheer size.
For $150 secondhand, plus a $150 globe a year later, I'm feeling no urge to upgrade.
I previously had a 1024x768 projector and while the step up to 720p was noticeable, it wasn't the leap I was envisaging.
