Remote Desktop (MacBook Pro -> Windows 10)

Hi All,

I need some advice from tech gurus for a solution to access my Windows 10 home PC remotely (Over the internet) from a mac laptop.

Mac —> Internet —> Home PC

I have done some research online , one option to is to enable port forwarding (to allow remote desktop connection from internet) in my home router. However I understand the port forwarding option is not secure potentially exposing a security hole to access the home network.

What is a good setup to achieve this ?

I just use AnyDesk and it is free and works flawlessly without needing to tweak my router.

I use it to control and transfer files to and from my Mac to PC at another address.

  • Thanks. Is it as secure as citrix which I use for work?

Teamviewer is free for personal use, albeit with a pop up saying so every time you end your connection.

  • RealVNC

I think you'll need to install the software on the PC, and then download the Viewer on the Mac.

  • chrome remote desktop, its free and works :)

TeamViewer would be the most reliable and hasell free.

VNC is good too but with free version you would still end up opening ports on router.

I use chrome remote for end-users but it relies on user logged into windows and chrome running. TV and VNC can run in background as a windows service.

  • Teamviewer is the best and easiest - if you're here asking advice - then you need to use Teamviewer because your skill level doesn't have to be high to use it

    :)

  • Thank you all. I will be mostly using office product (outlook , office ) on the remote computer (home PC ) . Would AnyDesk / Teamviewer do the job ?
Teamviewer personal use it seems no longer free.

    • Still thought TeamViewer was free..

Maybe double check VNC connect as well since they might have free options for home users?
