3 Month Accomodation for a Rural/Regional Placement Stint to Complete Masters

Hey guys.

I am currently selecting preferences for a rural/regional placement stint that I need complete for my masters. A few of the areas I have selected are Shepparton, Canberra, Duncraig, Wangaratta, Hamilton and Wagga Wagga. Now some areas do have universities close by so I can just apply for the uni res and see how I go. Others don't, other than airbnb which is still quite expensive for 3 months.

Does anyone else have any ideas on what I could, preferably I'd like to be at a place on my own, ie small apartment.

  • Definitely contact places and ask for a discount for staying 3mths.
I know people who list accom. on airbnb+others and they regularly give really good discounts for that length of time.

  • Another option is search for granny flats? Some ppl may have granny flat in their backyard willing to rent out for some income.

Altho I don't know the best way to find these though… Sorry, just an idea.

What kind of placement is it? I did placement at the hospital in Shepparton last year and they have accommodation for students for $80 a week at a share house.

  • House Sitting might be another option.

Most sites let you sort the listings by area and length of stay, so you might find one that matches.

  • Willing workers on organic farms WWOOF. Join them and expect to do two hours work for free accommodation, +2 hrs will get u feed for free.

Canberra is super expensive to avoid that one perhaps as the other places look much cheaper.

  • Wagga has a heap of student style accommodation due to Charles Stuart Uni. Maybe ask the student services team at CSU for options.

    Maybe avoid Shepparton.

  • Pick a place in the country, then call the real estates in those towns about 3 month rentals before committing. Shepp. Duncraig and Hamilton would probably be the cheapest places to rent.

Surely the Masters program have people who have done this before and can assist you in finding accommodation.

Wagga wagga is the place to go. Plenty of accomodation, both on campus and south campus in the city. Otherwise there is some share houses in Estella near the uni.

Wagga also has plenty of shops, decent health care and is on the train line to Sydney and Melbourne.
