So what exactly is the point of the sale? As in how much are they dsicounting prices.. that's what I want to know…

Neutral from me until I can see what they're offering

what about previous experience? they did this sort of sale before, are they any good?

  • +6

prolly means they'll spend 1 hour raising the prices by x per cent, only to discount by x percent 1 hour later lol

its a marketing poly, dont give ya details, make you come and buy something u dont want, cant afford and is more expensive but has a large discount % next too it, when the rrp is ultra high!

I agree to above. But here is what I do. I go to shops and look for things I wanted to buy (specially expensive items). Before I commit, I check online prices online either on my phone or internet from the shop laptop. If they can price match it, then I but. Else, I walk out. Sounds silly but I have saved a fortune.

  • harvey normal always runs these sales, were things have a supposedly HUGE discount.
In reality the discount they show is over the RRP not their usual price :-/

    • It is illegal to advertise discounts that are not relative to the retailers normal selling prices.

      • tell hardly normal, they get the name for a reason.

    • We noticed this at Domayne (also owned by HN). They had a 30% off sale. Funny enough, their original "floor" price on a particular piece was marked $100 more than what was in their seasonal catalogue (ie not a sale catalogue) - which they had sitting at their counter! When questioned, they simply said that the floor price was their original price which it was clearly not. Check your prices people. These guys constantly do dodgy sales.

  • God damn it, I don't need anything but I have this urge to go check it out! Lol

  • Waste of time i bet. This aust wide?

They will probably have a bunch of fake leather CDMA phone cases at the door for $1, everything else will be normal price.

  • madness sale.. yah.. you're mad if you attend

    • MADNESS!

according to the fine print on the home page = *NSW only.

  • dunno if i should go.

need a washer, dryer, tv and fridge.
got good prices from bing lee yesterday. could take these prices to HN. wonder if they'll beat it

  • Goof Guys Beat Bing Lee price by $35 on a whirlpool dryer… couldnt believe it as past 5 years they have always beat Goof Guys on anything..

  • Who is with me on documenting Harvey Norman's misleading advertising?

  • +2

fyi absolute waste of time. I saw an item advertised for $499 on their website and available for low 400s elsewhere with an "absolute special" sticker on there for $535.
    What a joke.
    Never buying from there again…EVER.
Very pissed off that I wasted my time.

Gerry, if HN is losing money, its not because people are importing their own and avoiding GST, its because your prices and service suck.

Good Guys and Bing Lee will continue to get my dollars

  • I went to the Christmas Staff Sale utterly sceptical.
However they had discounted their electronics range by 50% at RRP.

I picked up a few belkin ipod accessories at half price. It was a pretty good deal.

They hadn't marked the prices down, instead you had to see a sales assistant (pretty hard to get a hold of).
Where they would discount it by 50% for you and then proceed to check-out.

    Store was at City-West Perth.

  • So anyone see any decent deals? I didn't bother going.
