How to get a Gold Number and not pay too expensive?

I would like to have a Gold Number, but mobile carriers are charging too expensive. Can someone help me?

  • I have had reasonable luck buttering up a call centre operator and getting them to quickly scan the list of recently available numbers (from previously cancelled services). Get them to look for the type of number you want - forget 888 type stuff as that is snapped up quick.

What's so good about a gold number anyway? It's not like you need to memorize phone numbers these days.

you need them for picking up asians when you don't have wechat/Line/Kakao

From my person experience, having a sweet number didn't help with picking up. Every time I gave out my number they assumed I was just giving them a fake number and I had to prove it was real before they would believe me.

        • Easier to remember own numbers to give them out.

You're female ? An attractive one i suppose.

@dcep: Balding overweight bloke in his mid 30s, but thanks I enjoyed that. On reflection they were probably rejecting me & looked for an easy out

      • Mine is all 7's & 2's & I have an Asian Missus! Vodafone took My old 0418 number with mostly 0's & 8's that I had since the late 80's when Handheld mobiles first came in!

I've had my number for about 15 years and it would be considered 'gold'. I worked in a Dick Smith and was just randomly looking through a Vodafone bin and found it by chance. Around once a month I'll get a text or phone call from someone offering to buy it from me. Not sure how successful this method is but could be worth a try.

    • Seems like those Vodafone bins were a bit of a gold mine, I got my number the same way and it too would be considered gold nowadays.

    • how much did they offer you anyway?

Most was $500, not worth my effort and I like having such a sweet number

        • What's the pattern like?

          • +1

@ronnknee: 6 consecutive numbers … and the more desirable sequence

      • A mate of mine recently paid $2k for his business one!

What specific combinations are you after?

  • How much would a gold number cost?

had never heard this term before, did a google search https://www.phonenumbers.net.au/c/196703/1/gold-numbers.html

my old number from years ago made this list

I got a number with a double and triple in it by going to coles and looking through the $2 telstra sims

I think a gold is a quadruple though

  • what number are you after?

  • I've got what is probably a Gold landline number (It's only 8's and 0's) but I don't think they're as popular as mobile one's. Otherwise I'd sell it.

  • I used to have a land-line number of the form xxyy xxyy. I thought it great until I started getting lots of wrong number calls - most obviously by people who accidently redialled the first part of the number. After a couple of years I changed my number to something very boring; I just could not be bothered with all the nuisance.

    • My old home phone number was one digit different from the local brothel…
Mine ended 3232. Theirs ended 3234 and 3235. Always great answering the phone only to be asked "how much is the daytime special?"

I know a few people with a gold coast number …

  • pretty much, the only options you have is the older prepaid Telstra sims come with an assigned number, so look at those for the one you want. Otherwise, you find someone that you know that is working for Vodafone, Optus or Telstra store and see if they can provision you a no-contact post-paid service, with doubles in it.

If there is a string of numbers that you find rememberable, you could try selecting an Amaysim number, but any triples and obvious patterns are charged at $30.

040zxxyxxx is the best that I have managed to get at no cost and that was from Telstra.

  • Go for a word instead? Back in the day I chose my own number and made it 04xx first name. I do mean back in the day though.

    Can you still do this?

      8008135 ?

i see what you did there.

      • That would be an absolute ripper. Call that man, he doesn't know what he has. Surely some sort of arbitrage is possible.

  • i had no idea you could even buy a gold number, until i read this i didnt know what a gold number was. very soft world we live in.

  • Ozbargain dial-a-mod is a gold number, and it's paying dividends for the community

  • Am 70yrs old have 3 mobile nos can recite them all with ease may need a gold no when dementia kicks in.

  • I have three 8's and the only 4's are in the prefix. Is that a gold number?

    • Bronze at best

  • I recently got a Telmex service (Mexico, obvously)and was given the number 3xx x888 810 (No 4s in the number). I didn't realize it was Gold. Now I can feel rich.

  • I got 04ab xyx xxx from Amaysim. $30 bucks.

  • My mobile number is all consecutive numbers. I just got given that number when I got a prepaid sim. It's great but I do feel awkward giving it to people as they probably think I'm giving them a fake number.

  • I got 04xx yxx yaa from my local telstra shop years ago. I don't know if it's gold but a lot of people have commented on the symmetry in it.

I got it by refusing the first maybe hundred numbers they offered me in the Telstra shop. Eventually the staff rang somewhere and asked for "better numbers"

So, yeah, free number upgrade to get rid of me.
