  • Google docs is good if you only have a few. If you search the old bargains there was a free gig of storage a little while back.

  • yeah I use google docs but that is only for docs.

  • I've search but amazon and dropbox was suggested though I don't know if they're good. I want personal suggestions/recommendation

Dropbox is great.. has iOS and Android apps too if you have either phone/tablet

  • Do you want outsiders to be able to browse? Or just as a way to transfer something large between 2 offices at work, because email is too slow / bloating etc?

Why do you need a "good interface"?

Mediafire is good for large stuff. http://www.mediafire.com/

It's a bit limited in organising folders, etc unless you pay, but if I was going to send you a large file that is what I would use.

  • I need something permenate & safe just private to access. and share sometimes

  • The BIG killer for online file storage in Australia is that we have really slow upload speeds on most ISP plans. For example my Optus cable can get up to 2.5mb/sec down but I can only upload at about 500k/sec. Many ADSL plans are even slower on upload!

That means for me a maxiumum practical upload speed of about 50KB/sec so a 10MB file takes 200 seconds (3-4 minutes) to upload.

  • mmm, seems like it's not up to scratch yet

    • "it" being australian internet service providers….

    consider http://www.adrive.com

50gb free storage, 2gb file size limit :)

    • Does adrive require you to download a program to upload files like Sungarsync does? or can you upload files by signing into the online web account, like if you were uploading a file onto Tinypic.

      • Does adrive require you to download a program to upload files like Sungarsync does?

        no

or can you upload files by signing into the online web account

        yes

  • Some of the more popular ones that include automatic syncing and a folder on your PC are:

    • Dropbox (2gb free, can be upgraded (I have 5 gb)) - one I personally use
    • SugarSync (5gb free)
    • ZumoDrive (2gb free)

I've only really used Dropbox but I have signed up for the other two. I use it to sync my My Documents folder so all my Uni work etc. on my home pc is accessible from work and when at uni, very useful. They have a web interface so anywhere you have the internet connection you can download files from your Dropbox.

  • Spideroak offers 2GB free. They claim zero knowledge hosting. The files are encrypted your end before being sent up to them. If you lose your password, that's curtains for your data, they can't recover it or your files.
