Found Gift Cards with Credit

So I found a gift card today, outside the local shops, it was there when I went in and still there when I came out so I grabbed it and thought that I'd check it a home, not expecting any credit on it. Anyway it has enough on it that I would be a bit annoyed if I lost it, Is there a way to find out the owner?

Can you redeem gift cards at a police station?

  • If you gave it to the shop, they may reward you with some goods.

    • only to the value of the remainder of the gift cards.. the cheap skates.

Well, the bigger the value of the gift card, the bigger the reward.

I'm not going to give you the keys to my car for returning my sunnies.

LOL…. something drop down from sky JUST use it.( You are not thief ).also impossible to find owner .

    • Wrong. An honest person would hand it in to the shopping centre management or police station.

  • Actually just found this post that I thought was interesting. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/382578

  • Its just like finding money…what do you do then? I guess if you hand it in to police, and its not claimed, you might get it back - personally I have little trust in that system :/ …but you might feel more like you did the right thing…

Isn't there a standard Ozbargain "finders fee" or something? :P

  • What sort of gift card is it? At my local shopping centre they take your details when you buy a gift card in case it gets lost.

    • Coles

      • In the past I have misplaced Coles gift cards and I have contacted Entertainment Book who I bought them from and they have suspended them. If you want the previous owner to get the credit back, the best thing you can do is hold on to the cards for a couple of months to give the owner the chance to contact Coles and let them know they have lost the cards. If you go to use them in a couple of months and they are still active then I guess you have had a windfall.

  • Well done for posting this.
