Gumtree Scam? - Osko transfer

I know people say Gumtree is always risky unless you're receiving cash, but I'm wondering if this is legit.

I recently listed an item for around $450. I had a buyer offer to pay me via PayPal. When I declined, they offered to do a bank transfer.

I accepted this, and it seems like the money cleared right away. On the transfer narration it says 'Osko Payment - Receipt XXX'.

Does this mean it's safe for me to send the item? Is there anyway the buyer can reverse the transaction?

Thanks!

  • if you can transfer the fund out of the account, I would say it is safe.

Yep agree. When I do bank transfers online it now uses Osko by default.

    knock yourself out

  • Its an instant payment system used by financial service providers:

As to whether it can be reversed, best check with your bank.

  • Yes Osko payment clears almost instantaneously. Usually they can do instant payment up to $1k.

  • Safe, Osko is part of the PayID systems, and is a instant transfer. He/She cannot claw the money back. Its safe to ship/drop off your item

    • Unless fraud is involved. Then oh boy you're in for fun. Best case funds frozen for 7-30 days then cleared, worst case transaction reversed.

      • True, But that is a very very rare scenario (Knowing my luck is what it is in this case :P)

        • Me personally, if it was over $100 and involved Gumtree - cash only.
