What to Do with 550 Dollars worth of Target GC?

Hi everyone,

I bought 550 dollars worth of Target gift cards through RACQ member rewards program so that I could get further discounted Catch GC. However, I was told that using GC to purchase GC is not allowed. Now I am stuck with the Target GC and I don't know that to do. I tried contacting RACQ straight away but they said there is a no refund policy in their terms and conditions. I am wondering if that is legal according to Australian Consumer Laws (after all it is a change of mind from me). If so, what are your suggestions for me considering we hardly buy anything from Target in the past years.

Thank you everyone.

    • Yep, sell them.

Out of interest, what's the usual haircut you have to take on gift cards?

      • +8

Usually 3 on the sides, trim on top

        • Skullet for sure

Seriously 10 percent of expected I’d think

      • People usually get 5% discount from the get go, so to onsell them you need to discount them at least 10%, even then depending on the popularity it might need to be more like 20% for non retail gift cards like google play or steam.

  • Spend it

    Eat them.

  • you could buy me a Switch?

You just answered your own question

  • Pay for a haircut

Buy a game console next time there's a good sale. Target often have big toy sales midway through the year with generous layby terms. You could resell it or keep it.

Yes, the retailer isn't required to provide change of mind returns for gift cards. $550 at Target is a bit of a spend tbh, it may not be easy to sell on even at 10% off.

The problem I can see is that like many ozbargainers, we go for the cheapest prices, so we buy whereever is cheapest and not one big spend at Target etc… I think you will have to get your kids a Switch console tbh

  • I purchased a gift card at target using a coles myer gift card earlier this year using a self service checkout and had no problems.

Have you tried purchasing the gift card?

    • No I tried but there was a lady guarding thr self checkout counters and she said giftcards cant be used for gift card purchases.

      • probably try again when it is busy and one of the younger girls at self checkout or another target if convenient?

Are the gc in $50s or $100s? Might wanna buy 2 Gift cards to start with so it doesn't look like you are holding a big stack of gift cards.

some stores/old grumpy ladies impose their own rules even though the system allows it.
