Aussies- Demand Political Debate and Coverage in Australia (Look for Better, Eg: Canadian Broadcasting Corporation)

It's been long ago, that I left Aussie media behind and went shopping for something better. Frankly, it's not been hard to find better media, IME.

And one of the Winners, IMO, is: Canada. Evidence: CBC's show: "Power & Politics" & its program of 2019-Apr-02: "Wilson-Raybould, Philpott out of caucus" (1h:48m:43s). Available (via a VPN, connected to Canada) at: Watch.CBC.TV

Devoting an ad-free ~2 hours to its topic, calmly providing background details, and (mostly) interruption-free debate, eg, by journo's, politicians & other public servants. Lotsa clear-headed (if trying to be) persuasive people commenting (again calmly) on various issues. Excellent questions [often with follow up questions] by the program's host (a woman, that anyone could learn The Art of Interviewing from, especially, younger Aussie women aiming for a career in media/journalism).

Holding focus, enjoying some passing humor, keeping the various points, events, and sub-issues (or related one) clearly in-mind, etc.

(I'll stop here, so you can decide for yourself if any Aussie program comes close.)

Background:

Canada's Liberal PM appointed the country's first Indigenous (there: "first nations") woman to the "dual-hat" job of:

  • Justice Minister and Attorney General

A Montreal-based engineering co. SNC Lavalin has been charged with Fraud &/or Corruption: allegedly paying huge bribes for contracts in both Canada and overseas. Lobbying seems to have lead to adoption of a new Law that let such a company "make amends" and delay prosecution (and hope they may never need to face the charges, in future). The country's Prosecutor had decided, that SNC Lavalin would not be given the benefit of the new Law.

The PM wanted them to be given that benefit, even after it lost some appeal(s), in court, to their first attempt to get them. PM (and others in the Government) seems to have then "pressured" the MoJ-AG to find ways to "persuade" the Prosecutor to change her mind, so that the company would get the benefit of the new Law.

After the MoJ-AG decided not to do that to support the independence of Prosecutor and Government she was removed from her job(s), in a cabinet shuffling, that lead to her getting the Indigenous Affairs file. Since the (now former) MoJ-AG strongly felt, that she could not in good conscience administer laws, that had disadvantaged indigenous peoples, across Canada, this must have felt like both a demotion and almost a nudge to exit the cabinet. In the end, she accepted "Veterans Affairs" instead. But she didn't let go of her allegations,
that she'd been unduly pressured, earlier.

(The rest of this story can be gleaned from the above Power & Politics program…)

I challenge anyone, who might know:

  • Which similar program [on TV in AU] comes close to doing such a good job, as a current events category show, anywhere in the world?

(English language shows preferred; Swedish OK ;~)

PS More to my point: How much BETTER could AU be, if we had such "High Quality" journalism as a norm, in Aussie media…?

PS 2: For those using a VPN w/ Limited Data, I used ~21 GB (of my 30 GB) Windscribe data to view the program.

PPS How much BETTER could it be if people used full width posts, correct capitalisation, punctuation and "High Quality" grammar??

Yes they could, but where would the fun be in that?

This why we say no to drugs.

Same comments every time, all true.

Hits a certain point where someone needs a posting ban, or needs to look at themselves before they hit "create post".

    • Burritos and nachos too.
