Gaming Headset for PS4 - around $150

Hi OZB crew ,

Looking for a gaming headset for PS4.

Considering the hyper x cloud 2 or the hyper x cloud alphas. Want a good sounding and comfy headset with decent mic. For the price around $150ish. Looking for a good value headset.
Any suggestions?

Thanks!!

PS4 can only output virtual surround with two Sony headsets, the more expensive one is around $150.

Unless, that is, you buy a Mixamp (or similar device) to mix the 5.1 output into virtual surround for any headphones.

Without Sony headsets or Mixamp you will have stereo output only.

    • Incorrect, HyperX Cloud 2's surround sound does word with PS4.
it doesn't list it in it's specs but i know for owning them that it does work.

      • What are your opinions on the cloud 2's overall ?

        • Great sound and build quality, they just never fit my ears well and was always uncomfortable (dont take this as a sign they are generally uncomfortable they just didn't suit me, lots of people say they are comfortable.)

I no longer use them though.

          • @Axelstrife: Which headset do you use now?

            • @js-bargain28: None, kinda I use Sennheiser HD6xx Headphones with a Modmic 5 on the side.
              Well above your $150 budget.
Before these i used a Logitech G533 (wireless) and before that a Logitech G433 then before that the Cloud II's the G433's where really good and extremely comfortable for me but i wanted wireless at the time and got the G533.

              • @Axelstrife: I currently have the g433's and ABSOLUTELY hate them , so uncomfortable for me and I feel like the sound is kinda low. Looking to change to the cloud 2's. Have only had the g433's for 2 days as well.

                • @js-bargain28: See some people ear's/heads are different.
i'd say the G433's are as comfortable as my Bose QC25's which i used to work 12+ hours straight and no issues.

Go for the Cloud's there sound is the best ive ever heard from game headphones (apart from my HD6XX's lol)

    • I've heard that the surround sound is fake and not real due to only 2 ways of sound getting out. Thoughts?

      • That's why they advertise it as "Virtual" Surround sound.

      • Most headsets are like this and will do virtual surround sound with two drivers. There are a handful of headsets that will try to mimic surround sound with multiple drivers, like the razer tiamat 7.1 or the psyko, but these are very subjective. I had a cm storm 5.1 surround headset with individual drivers and they are definitely not as good for music.

At the moment, for wired headsets I have a hyperx cloud revolver and a steelseries siberia v2. For wireless I have a logitech g533 and a hyperx cloud flight. Personally, I prefer the hyperx headsets for sound quality and positioning, but my favourite in terms of comfort would be the cloud revolver or g533 (a lot more padding).

  • Sony's own 'Gold' headset is an easy recommendation for me, great sounding, comfortable and they work in everything with ease, had mine since early PS4 days never needed to look elsewhere

  • I'm selling my official PS4 gaming headset if you are interested for around that price.
Not the gold version one though.
