  • Did you try looking at the Sydney Airport website?

    http://www.sydneyairport.com.au/SACL/Dropping-Off-and-Pickin…

    • yeah, my concern only this statement "Anyone wanting to pick-up arriving passengers at T1 must proceed to the International Car Park and follow the yellow signs to the 15 minute pick -up area."

can i park somewhere else? or it has to be in certain area only?

  • yeah you can park anywhere….of course the closer the better so that you can walk less…

not sure if the 15 mins is fixed though..so better to be fast than going over

nah don't need to validate ticket…just go through gate and insert card…

about time sydney airport gives 15 min free parking or even more…having to pay for trolleys is shameful compared to airports in asia..

    • so you don't have to follow the yellow line? i can just park as close as possible to the terminal?

"Anyone wanting to pick-up arriving passengers at T1 must proceed to the International Car Park and follow the yellow signs to the 15 minute pick -up area."

      • There is a dedicated 15 min pick up area but you don't have to use it to get the free parking .. but it's pretty close to the terminal and there are normally lots of fee spots.

Free parking is based on the time of your ticket .. if you're <15 min it's free, if you're 15 min+ you pay

        • +5

Yes. But if you go to the designated pick up area, it takes you to an area at the end of the building where

          1. Most people are waiting. Its easy to find and they can wait undercover and still see you drive in (see point 3), and there is places to stop and put luggage in etc
          2. It's easy to get out of the parking area - ie you dont waste some of your 15 mins driving around and then find you have gone over time - bang there's $7 gone.
          3. Its designed for people who are ready to be picked up. ie they have gone thru customs etc and walked out to the car park. Going in to meet them and bring them out isn't going to be within the 15 minutes. If they need help and you want to do this. take a friend, one of you drops the other off. Do this upstairs - departures - they walk down, the other goes somewhere close by and parks, they call you on mobile (pranking is cheaper and the ozbargain way), when they are walking out to the carpark, you enter car park, meet, put in luggage and away you go…
        • Yeah, what ozpete said +1. You won't make it within 15 minutes if you go in to look for them.

Used to pick up arrivals at departures using pranking until they cottoned on and made it a bookable offence.

        • i agree with you ozpete, i just pick up my family in the designated area. it is much easier to pick up and get out from the parking area. less than 5 minutes

  • I've heard an unverified rumour from someone who used to work near the airport - that if you validated your ticket at the ticket machine within the first 15 minutes, it gave you an extra 15 minutes to leave the car park. Not sure if this is true any more, as this was more than a year ago.

    • what that person said, example if you pay your parking = validate your parking ticket on that machine, the machine give you extra time 15 minutes for you to get out from the parking area. i am not sure if within 15 minutes free time than you validate this ticket then give you another 15 minutes, coz you don't put any money into the machine, how can they give you extra time?

    • I wonder how that would work since you are not paying anything at the machine. Wouldn't it just tell you that you have X minutes left?
