It would be beneficial to list your approximate location when asking for such suggestions.

    • sydney southern suburbs. is it too complex to do it urself? been looking at a few youtube videos, the tools arent expensive.

      • It's not just the price of tools, but the experience of working with them. I've done wooden doors before for my own home, but imagine working with glass (additional weight, complexity in working with glass) to be more difficult.

        • yea cutting the glass doesnt look hard but putting it on the door is probably too much. do u have a rough price for my area? none of the companies i saw list price.

          • @Gerry H: Sorry, I'm on Perth so can't help you with a recommendation, but some east coasters may be able to provide info.

  • Did the broken glass break in little pieces? Or was it large sharp shards of glass?

post a photo of the door. then we know what type of door you are actually talking about

  • You could take the door off and take it to a glass place, might save a few $ otherwise I would expect about $200 ish..

    • what do u mean a glass place?

I assume you just want a glazier. We had a broken window and I found it really hard to get a web listing for genuine local glazier. Lots of trade listings sites, local sites which are actually referring to another company, and o'briens who must spend a fortune on adwords, which is reflected in their price. They said it would $600 and after 6pm another $200 after hours fee (this was at 2pm), they said no one was availble until after 6. I eventually found a local company who did it for $200.

    • where did you look for these companies? i expect google results to all use adwords alot. would be nice to find a decent company who use social network for ads.

If it's a door it won't be cheap as these have to be safety glass

How big is the piece of glass? You can get a glazier to cut it to size.

Depending on the door it will be held in by a timber bearing or window putty. Either way, remove what is folding the glass then replace it. Ive done both and it’s not hard. If it is putty, it might be easier to remove the door and do it flat. If beading should be quite easy to pry off the beading, replace the glass and tack the beading back on, possibly with a little adhesive.
