Purchasing Limited Edition Game off Gumtree (Paying by PayPal)

Hi everyone, I'm interested in purchasing a Limited Edition of an old game off Gumtree, but am unsure the best way to do it.

I'm down in Sydney and the seller is in Victoria, so what's the best way for us to do this? I've heard doing Paypal Goods and Services is the safest way, how does that work?

I read a few articles like this where they say Gumtree no longer has buyer protection, is that true? If so, and that means my money is down the drain if the seller doesn't deliver, what's the next best way to do it?

Thanks for the advice, I'm pretty new to this sort of stuff. :)

  Face-to-face cash trade or forget about it with Gumtree. Or ask them to put it on eBay so you have buyer protection.

  Unless you want to risk trusting seller to send you the item and acknowledge you have no recourse if they don't. Paypal doesn't cover Gumtree purchases.

    Bummer! Really disappointed to hear that, do you think the seller would be okay with listing it on eBay? Should I just say "I'm not comfortable purchasing it on Gumtree, can you list it on eBay please?" or something?

      You can ask but there's additional eBay and Paypal fees on top so they might ask for more money.

  Gumtree is never safe unless you pick it up and pay in person. Paypal does not give any protection to gumtree sales.
