How Often Do I Need to Service My Honda CRV?

I have a 2014 Honda CRV and the warranty is running out on it pretty soon. Honda wants you to service their cars every 6 months and that's pretty much what I've been doing in order to maintain the warranty.

6 months seems rather excessive. I don't really drive it all that much (maybe done 48k in these 5 years so basically servicing every 5000km).

Going forward, should I continue with 6 month servicing or move to 1 year? Or service by 10000km etc?

Also, now that warranty has run out, is it still worth doing log book or should I just do the general servicing?

  • I only get my 2011 Hyundai serviced once per year - I only do up to 10,000kms per year

  • If you dont drive much once a year should be fine

Just sell it if you don't want to maintain it

Where do you get it serviced and how much does it cost you? I've had previous mechanics that have charged $500 for a basic service and I contemplated skipping services like you, but I ended up finding a good local mechanic who charges around $200 for a basic service so taking the car in every 6 months is not a big deal (2005 Honda Accord Euro).

If you want to maintain the value of the car, log book servicing would make a significant difference when it comes time to sell. However, if you plan on owning it for 15 more years then the difference in sale price will be negligible.

    • $500? Even the dealership only charges about $270 for a log book service

  • also, if you're getting it serviced at a dealership, call around to others and find the cheapest price and get it price matched.. i do it with Honda and Toyota all the time

Mechanic here, yearly or 10k is fine

    • Listen to the Mechanic.

I'm not a mechanic but service my own cars. Every 12 months is fine.

      Basic oil change every 10km.

      Brake fluid & Air/Cabin filters every 2 years/30k.

There's actually very little that is changed when servicing a car.

        Basic oil change every 10km.

I also change my oil halfway to work.

  • one year or 20k which one comes earlier. make sure you use good quality engine oil

    • 20k is way too long between oil changes.

      • I drive holden commodore, the booklet says 15K anyway. I use fully synthetic oil, drive nearly 20K a year. doing it since 5 years, no issues. it depends what sort of car you use and what grade engine oil you use
