Reminders of coupon expiry dates

How do you track expiry dates on vouchers? I put the expiry date in my calendar at work and set a 1-month reminder so that when such a voucher alert appears, I've got 4 weeks to sort it out. Generally I try to book ahead anyway, but I find that with most restaurant deals, 4 weeks is sufficient time.

This thought occurred to me tonight because I'm using up my last Indya Bistro vowcha before it expires on 4th June and I wondered how other people tracked them.

  • I have a folder in gmail for the coupons, and set reminders there. As a rule I try to get in as soon as the voucher becomes available, and tend to only buy vouchers that I will use within the next few weeks.

  • Moo, Got one of those Vowcha coupons. FYI, it expires July 4 not June 4.

As for expiring coupons, I keep a sort folder to remind me of things that I need to action. Additionally, I have a dry erase board on my fridge with a short description and expiration date of each coupon.

    • Ah, it does expire next month. Duh. Turns out my brain was not turned on at the start of 2011 when I was calculating "what is 6 months from now?"… :-O

      • Still, it was nice to have a very nice meal again. You know, a final meal before the Rapture hits today… ;-)

        • But have you taken care of your pet? :)

        • Yes. I went out and ate dinner. If I'd stayed home, I would have had to eat him to spare him the impending suffering. ;-)

        • I'm sure there are some atheists (well actually non-rapture believers) who would be willing to take care of him post-rapture for a fee. :)

        • +1

I agree. But I am an OzBargainer and therefore unwilling to pay the fee. When faced with "pay $135 for someone else to look after my pet" vs "eat my pet", I choose the latter.

  • i've got an excel list with name of group buy site, deal and expiry and sorted in order of expiry date. I've got the coupons hyper linked so i just click on the name of the deal.
i'm looking at it everyday try to plan my week for dinning out or weekend activity or which friends i should invite to come along. hence not many have expired on me.
there was a cheap drink voucher which i didn't use cause i bought it in dec 10 and it expired in jan 2011, didn't click it was only 1 month and also forgot to put on my list.
so most of time i update my list as soon as i've bought it, so when i looked at i remember to go back and print it or find it in my email.

I dont like hard copies cause i can't remember if i've used it or not sometimes especially with multiple of the same vouchers.

  • Good God, Ozbargainers using paper ways to track their purchases. And I thought I was a little behind in technology - a FB hater….

Google Calendar is a great way to track items that need doing by a certain date.

You can post things for a day rather than a specific time. You can have multiple calendars, so I have one for financial things to do. The advantage of different calendars is, by setting the preferences you can have warnings sms'd to your phone at various times.

EG Appointments 1 hour in advance, Bills to pay 1 day in advance, birthdays (which can be shared with the whole family), 2 days in advance.

You can also set different ways to message you even from the same calendar. Using birthdays you can have an email sent 2 days in advance and an SMS sent to you on the day.

Best of all the SMS and emails are FREE - now there's a word that will have all OZB's excited.

And you can access your calendar from anywhere with Internet connection. There are IOS apps to link in AND being Google there should be Android as well (I just dont know that one).

And probably other features that I dont use.

BTW Yahoo and others offer calendars like Google, so if you aren't into Google check the others out, they probably have most of the features I mentioned

Oh and with Google I dont put all my details into the Calendar, its rather generic - like meet Paul, Pay phone bill, Pay mobile, not Pay Telstra, Pay Optus etc

And there is a Todo List, which gives generic features linked to the Calendar

  • I have an epic memory for these things. Like before facebook I was the birthday reminder in our friends circle, now I have been replaced D=

But I generally jot them down in my uni diary so I can confirm if I ever have doubts.

Lately in the last month I bought a fair few vouchers… so I am trying to get them all out of the way at the end of exams next months and have bookings made now to avoid issues other people have in making bookings.
