Note 9 Moisture Detection AGAIN

Recently ( 14th march) i had to send my galaxy note9 to the service centre as i was unable to charge my phone and upon first inspection from the service centre, they reported that the phone is working with wireless charging, but not charging via usb, the reason is there is liquid in the USB charging port and short circled usb port which needs to be replaced.

They had advised liquid damage is not part of the warranty and asked if I want to get the USB port replaced with the cost of 150(95for parts and 55 for handling).
After few days I got my phone and every thing was working.Until recently, i've been getting moisture warning from charging my phone although I haven't been anywhere near water or rain.( but could be humidity as i had my phone in my pocket).
I have tried few online solutions to fix this warning but nothing worked, it has been 5 days now btw.and was wondering if theres any other way to fix this. Thanks
**its a grey model( not australian stock) bought from ebay with 1 year AU based warranty and still has the warranty left.

If you paid for the fix then return it to be looked at.

    • Yeah should be some warranty on the repair itself.

      Unless you have sweaty pockets.

Why is it so moist in your pocket?

    • I work in a kitchen and sometimes its really hot in there..just a possible guess.

  • Mine has the moisture detection warning from being in the same room as a running shower, and from my skin just holding the device.
    It's overly sensitive.
It shouldn't be getting damaged from water, it's waterproof.
Normally it dries off. I'd suggest cleaning the USB socket with isopropyl. Maybe you can fit a flattened cotton tip in there?

What's the problem anyway, it won't charge or is it the message keeps coming up?
If it's an issue with charging then the simple workaround is to use wireless charging.

    • Yes did buy a wireless charger, as i was unable to charge my phone thru Usb-C port. Was looking if i could find other solutions.

  • The note 9 has an IP68 rating.

Take the phone back to the retailer for a replacement or refund.

I don't know if he could

    • I bought it online and last time when i parcel my phone for repairs it took me 1 week to get my phone back…plus because of moisture warning, warranty didnt work.

You took the risk. Looks like you're paying for it now. #falseeconomy

    • Yes looks like it…as i bought the phone in a hurry and when saw 1 year AU warranty thought it was an AU stock without conformation.

  • bought from ebay with 1 year AU based warranty

OP, can please link the listing?

  • Rice

    • pasta

    • Tried that as well…haha used brown rice for 1 whole day and white rice for next day….didnt work.

      • quinoa!

Also had this issue with my s7 a couple of times after taking it in the pool, but it always went away after it dried out.

        • Might try that today…will reply the result

          • @akaanup: Have you tried a hair dryer on a low setting for a few mins, or perhaps one of those hippo moisture absorbers.

            • @crashloaded: Tried using hair dryer but havent used moisture absorber( i dont have one). There is no any water/moisture presence in the usb charging port.

  • My husband has this notification on his Galaxy S8, it’s been there for a long time now but since we use wireless charging he just lives with it. I’ve followed all the trouble shooting samsung suggests but haven’t taken it to a repair centre. So far I haven’t found a fix for it.

    • **tears

  • I had the issue with an S9 and thought, thats odd as its in a Lifeproof case and I recharge wirelessly. I did a hardware reset and it never came up since.

    • Tried a reset aswell, no luck

      • Common fix is to clear cache, but if you did a full reset that should have taken care of it….

Did you try a different usb cable/charger? Faulty cables can trigger the warning.

        • Yes did tried different cables and whenever i plug my phone in my phone starts to freak out and shows the warning sign and wont charge the phone.

          • @akaanup: Try different chargers too. Though I would probably refrain from trying it in a usb port on a computer, just in case there is an actual short somewhere. Use a plain usb charger (nothing with QC or rapid or whatever).

Clean out the usb port, both on the phone and the usb-c cable itself. I use a small needle to dig around there. Even a tiny bit of lint can cause issues (especially if it's ever so slightly damp, i.e. a high humidity day). Get some compressed air and really blast the port and usb cable end. Make sure there's absolutely nothing there.

You may just need to get used to using wireless chargers. Awfully convenient at times (just toss phone on nightstand and no fiddling with cables), not at others (can't toss the phone in a laptop bag connected to a powerbank).

  • Its not just samsungs with this issue my lg had the same problem, after a week of not being able to charge my phone, tried ipa on the port, i found a forum post if you could boot the phone into service mode you can disable moisture detection, battery was at 8%. After a few attempts i managed to get into the sevice menu and disable MD, phone now charges but I get the warning it will only support slow charging even when plugged into QC3 ports.

  • Just carry a bag of rice everywhere you go and keep your phone in that. Could probably claim it as a tax deduction as you work in the catering trade. Win/win result.

  • I got tired of pocket fluff in phone ports and started using a magnetic charging cable, leaving the tip permanently in the charging port hence preventing fluff/moisture from getting in there instead. This kind of thing.
