  • This is a ripped off.

  • Yeah you'll find ThinkPad T-series, X-series and W-series are a lot more expensive in Australia, even after 30% off. On the other hand, ThinkPad Edge's Australian price is actually quite reasonable. Pretty decent machine as well. So yes, Lenovo Australia is a ripped off, but only partially. Australia being a big sparsely populated island in the middle of an ocean does not really hold the water here (as it's often used as excuse for charging customers more) — they could lower the ThinkPad Edge price but why not T/X/W series?!

My theory is — highend ThinkPad is for business/corporates, and they are happy to be ripped off anyway ($1000 difference in TCO for a laptop over 3 years is just a small sum in the balance sheet). Lenovo is not the only one to be blamed here. Dell Latitude is a lot more expensive here (comparing to Dell Vostro). HP EliteBook as well. All these are marked as "high end business laptops".

    • When the Dell XPS deal was available, Dell XPS was $1100 AUD here in the US the same spec is about $1100 USD. So that's called fair play. The Lenovo T/X/W series pricing is just ridiculous here.
