Verbatim 16GB USB 2.0 $5 Limited/Selected Stock @ Officeworks (Cannington)

80

Found these 16GB sticks for $5. They look exactly the same as the one in the link of $6.98. I suppose these are the cheapest 16gb atm?
You need to look for the barcode that ends in 696. These ones will be scanned at $5.

On the website they have these for $5 but couldn't find any in stock.

Both $6.98 and $5 lots are in the same tray in Cannington store but looks like they still have a fair bit of $5 in there

Really? I've never seen any USB 2.0 usbs for $1, the cheapest I've seen was like $8 for 16GB. Would you mind linking me to where I could purchase them fr $1? That's a pretty good price and I need to buy several to back up photos, cheers.

      • I have never seen any USB drive being sold for $1, but I have noticed Big W usually sell Sandisk USB drives for $6, sometimes those drives are even discounted to $3~4 per piece.

      • Officeworks had some crappy 3 packs of 8gb for $3 for a while.

  • hehe i've been looking for some cheap flash drive for usb photo frames. usb2 ones are still more than i want to pay! don't even need 16gb for that job

    • They have got the 8GB version for the same price :p

  • Alexandria NSW has about 10 red $5 ones left (from the website link)

  • That should be the rtail price for those .

USB2 is still popular especially a lot of ppl still don’t know the difference. And there are lot of fake ports. Also even s USB3.0 claimed USB can have really low write speed. Almost USB2

  • These are the modern day equivalent of a floppy disk, simply too slow for the volume they are transferring.

Schools should educate students about the speeds of these things.

    • Having worked in a school IT department once most schools are completely useless regarding IT education.
Place i worked at the IT/Math teacher was constantly referring to me for info,, credit for not being totally ignorant at least.
When i inherited the department the main file server was an old gaming motherboard with 2 x 80GB PATA drives in RAID1.
Students were allocated 6MB each of network storage (in 2006).

      • 6mb, nice.. that's good for a word document or literally two.
I recall 2gb at my school in 2001.

I don't expect schools to teach too much, but it would be nice if they taught people how to avoid wasting money at times.

They need a "smart advertising" compulsory course where they teach you to question numbers in marketing at least… Though perhaps the economy is better off this way and the government has no incentive to teach that

  • USB2 does not bother me.
What i'm actually interested in is random and sequential read and write speeds.
Many USB3 flash drives can't even move data at USB2 speed.

    • Since you know the limits, it should be of concern. If this were a USB 3 deal, such specs would be addressed here.

But we all know what this card is.
