Console to Play “Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong’s Double Trouble”

I used to play “Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong’s Double Trouble” in SNES console long time back. I want to play this game again and I don’t know whether I can play it in PS4 or XBox. Do you know? Or is there any other console in which I can play this game? I don’t have any console now but I am willing to buy both console and game. Thanks.

    Retro Pie
    Homebrew Nintendo Wii
    Homebrew Nintendo Switch
    Homebrew PSP
    Homebrew PS Vita

    Or

Buy OG SNES with original game

  • You can play it on pc with an emulator

You can even play it on a browser using keyboard or using a plug in snes controller on pc

If you want to play it legally you need to buy a new3ds , switch or wiiu and digital download using virtual console or go old school with a snes and the game from ebay or someone else second hand

    • I don't think it's available on the Switch.

      • Yeah not on switch but theres also a gba port , some ninty site made it seem like it was out

Donkey Kong is owned by Nintendo, so you'll have to get a Nintendo branded console.
Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong’s Double Trouble has been officially re-released on the Wii, Wii U and New 3DS/New 2DS systems.
The eShop for the Wii has been shut down, and the Wii U is no longer in production. (3DS/2DS is portable, probably not what you're after)

Personally I'd recommend getting a SNES Mini and modding it to add the game to it.
Modding it is a simple as plugging the USB cable to your computer and you use a program to put the rom on it. Guide here
Legally it's a grey area to download the ROM.

I'd say a Wii, softmodded would be cheapest and easiest

I'm sure the game is still available to purchase digitally on the Wii U e-Shop….if OP is wanting to go the legitimate route or has no time/interest in console modding!

Of course, a Wii U is a little more pricey compared to the Wii but it has the added bonus of playing both game libraries on the one console (Wii and Wii U games). In addition to selected digital titles of older Nintendo consoles such as the NES, SNES, N64, GBA and even Nintendo DS which are available for purchase.

Edit: Just checked and it's available on the store for $10.40AU. The previous SNES Donkey Kong games are also available and for the same price.

      • Ok fair call didn't know the Wii-u eshop was still open

  • I don't think ozbargain is a site for suggesting illegal downloading of games.
It is available wherever you can find a second hand gaming.
A SNES console you should pay about $80, the game is normally around $40.
    Wii's are about $40, game around $15-20.
Gumtree, Facebook Marketplace, cash converters, ebay are a starting point.

      shrug
Nintendo aren't getting any money out of the purchase of a second-hand console and/or game anyway. However if they had an e-store or a way for op to play the game for an acceptable price I'm sure they'd happily pay it.

Piracy isn't hurting anyone in this situation

    • Cant use wii anymore because vc has been discontinued

  • Thank you everyone. This is a huge help for me. Highly appreciated!!!

    • Out of curiosity, what have you settled on?

  • Also New 3DS, can install it right on your home screen
