Looking for recommendation - Comprehensive Car Insurance YOUI or NRMA

Hi Everyone,

I am currently due to renew my car insurance and unsure which provider I should take. My current insurer is AAMI which quoted me approx. $1000 to renew for my Mitsu ASX 2012. I did search for other alternative car insurers and came up with 2 finalists

  1. NRMA offers me $758 per annum which has similar policies like others with $800 excess and market value

  2. YOUI offers me $883 per annum which requires $900 excess and market value. However, they also offer 2 free call-out roadside assistant and 50% of your premium ($441.5) return as YOUI Dollars, which can be used to buy discount vouchers in YOUI app.

YOUI's offer sounds very interesting to me but approx $130 more expensive than NRMA. Has anyone had any experience with YOUI and whether the YOUI Dollar is really worth your bet?

Thanks.

Get more quotes…. you can do better - I believe in you!

    • LOL! So far I have obtained quotes from Suncorp, AAMI, NRMA, RACQ, QBE, Allianz and YOUI. I am quite hesitate with Budget Direct, not sure about their customer service when you actual make the claim as people say you get what you pay for.

Bingle, Virgin, Huddle, Woolworths, Coles….most of them are underwritten by the same large insurance companies anway.

      • So finally which Insurer service did you opt for as My Car Insurance is due soon and I am presently with AAMI and it would cost me around $1000…Any recommendation ??

See what's in their PDS re. claiming, especially for not at fault claims. Some like Allianz just require you to provide the other driver's details. Some like NRMA require the other driver to pay the excess on their policy. Some like Bingle (I think) will increase your premium even if you've had a not at fault claim.

I would, without a doubt, go with NRMA - just because I think they're less likely to stuff around during a claim.

I switched from AAMI to NRMA, wish I'd done that earlier. NRMA is way far above AAMI, in term of service. Can't say for other insurer. My personal experience btw.

YOUI is rubbish, and so is their YOUI Dollars, the offers are not worth anything.

If you don't mind paying more, NRMA is probably the best. But i'd also check out Coles/Woolies/Budget/Huddle if I were you, they have some good offers.

I also have an ASX, and just insured with Suncorp last month, very good deal. Do try.

Note we also have house insurance with them, perhaps there's a bit of discount factor there….

    • Yes, I tried Suncorp, the price is pretty close with YOUI, maybe as what you said you have house insurance with them and discount applied.

      • We have amended our Excess to I think $2,000.
You can have a play and change it from $0 to $500 to $2000.
        Fingers crossed !

Just been through a claim with NRMA. Took 6 months to get repairs approved for only a very minor parking accident. Would not recommend

    • If you prefer to have the liberty to choose your own mechanic whom you trust, or you have a high value vehicle, CGU is pretty good with that.

I'm surprised you had the patience to sit through a 40 minute call with YOUI just to get a quote

    • I did that a while ago, never again.

    • That's another thing I dont like about YOUi…. the talk and phone call.
      Makes me cringe!

    • I agreed with you guys about the phone call from YOUI, it's just annoying.
