NBN 12 Mbps Service Gone??!

NBN is finally available in my area. I eagerly went to change over from my 3-4 mbps ADSL service to the 12 mbps plan my provider (Exetel) offered when I last checked. But no….the 12 mbps plans have gone, and the next tier gives speed I do not need at, of course, a higher price. According to Exetel, NBN does not offer the 12 mbps option now. The article here supports Exetel's information

According to the article, around 25% of NBN customers are on 12 Mbps plans. They will have to upgrade (and up price) or find an alternative. I would not be happy.

Just a few weeks ago I asked Exetel about switching to the Optus 4G service from ADSL as the NBN seemed to be getting no closer, and was told I'd have to pay a hefty contract cancellation fee. That fee has now been waived, so I'm going 4G wireless ASAP.

Should add - I'm not in a Uniti or NuSkope zone (unlike my partner who has been happily wireless with Uniti for over 12 months), but have a 2300 Mhz Optus tower close.

  • Man, 3-4 or 12? With Optus it's either 50 or 100.

    • I was on 0.8mbps with Iinet "offnet" adsl2… checked the NBN availability everyday (at work coz i could do f-all at home) and called on the day it changed to Available

  • I will tell you now the difference in responsiveness of websites and loading videos is huge between 12mbps and 50 or 100mbps connection. Go for at least 25mbps if you can't afford it.

    • Coming from a 5 down max service to 50i haven't noticed a difference at all. My torrents and download wait time however whewwww

  • Moved from ADSL2 3mbps to Optus HWBB at 12mpps about 18 months ago. Was a massive improvement at the time, however it's starting to feel slow again as usage and devices increase. NBN are about 3-4 months away - will switch to that and maybe go the 100 if not too expensive. Would have liked 5G but seems too far away, maybe another year which I cannot wait.

  • Go with TPG, which are still offering 12mbs deals for 100g & unlimited

    • TPG 100 gig 12 Mbps is the same price as Exetel 100 gig 50 Mbps….

  • Spintel's still got nbn12 option.

  • Exetel 4G internet (via Optus 2300 Mhz network) now installed and working! Ordered Wednesday, modem and SIM delivered Friday, activated on line and live in 15 minutes or so. Very happy
