Can Somebody Explain Xbox 360 Region Lock?

I recently got into xbox 360 and started buying bunch of used games from everywhere. Then I remembered seeing a re-released copy of red dead redemption for the xbox one around the end of last year. This began my search of looking for brand new games, old and re-releases, for the 360.

This lead me to couple games such as skate 3, forza motorsport 4, final fantasy XIII-2 and so on. But there were some games that I could not find an australian copy of. For some reason, I can't seem to find any australian copy of the re-released RDR anywhere. All i can find is US & UK copy of the game.

This is where I need some answers. Is my australian console able to play european/Uk titles? Can I download DLCs from an australian xbox marketplace? If so, are there any downsides?

Australia, EU, & UK share the same PAL region so you shouldn't have issues playing UK games in Australian consoles.

Don't buy US copies for use in an Australian console though.

    DLC's aren't region coded.

hi mate, do you know what is difference with dyson v7 motorhead version and cordfree version, i could not find any information online, it looks the same, i saw your post in anohter thread. thanks

  • If you get a Xbox Live subscription they offer digital Xbox 360 titles every month. They are yours to keep forever.

  • The version of Red Dead you saw was probably that it was added to the backwards compatibility list, rather than a specific xbone version.

  • If you're after some cheap X360 titles, hit up a Cash Converters if you've got one nearby. I've managed to grab heaps of titles on the cheap to top up my collection.

  • never knew the 360 was region locked as eb games sent me an NTSC copy of blue dragon before. Turns out there are a few games that are not locked https://gamicus.gamepedia.com/List_of_region-free_Xbox_360_v…

  • Other Region games should work on Xbox One if on the Backwards Compatible list, I've used an NTSC CoD MW2 which dodnt work on my 360

  • The Xbox 360 itself isn't region locked per se. It's the games that are, depending on the developers. Whether games are region locked or not depends entirely on the developers of that specific game and not Microsoft. You'll find that some games are completely region free, while others work in some regions and not in others (the regions being PAL, NTSC-U and NTSC-J).

UK and AUS are both PAL, so you'll have absolutely no problems there. I have some US and JPN games that work on my 360, so you just have to check beforehand.

    Check this list:

And the 're-released' RDR you're referring to, is the same game as the 360 version. They just simply repackaged it in Xbox One packaging when it became a BC title.
