Plumbing Advice for a Kitchen

Hi. I have applied for a Home based kitchen licence. Based on the photographs, the city council people have told me that it would need an extra sink for handwashing.

Please stop reading if you don't like to guess things because I am asking you to guess what they city planner may approve.

This diagram explains my kitchen.

  • Your proposed tub is OK but I expect might be too big. You need dedicated handwash facilities within 5m of the work zone. A small basin is enough. Or stipulate that one of your existing sinks will be for handwash exclusively.

    • It is within 5m for sure. A smaller basin may need cutting up the existing surfaces for which the landlord may not agree.

      Thanks for replying!!

  • If you use the laundry rub for handwashing where do you intend to install it and how will the waste water get all the way back to the already installed sink?

    • At the end of the platform (where the red/blue lines go up). Omitted the drain pipe for clarity.

That laundry tub is 45 L and the drainwater pipe size is more than enough for hand washing.

Rest is up to the authorities.

  • you can get half laundry tubs. They are 450mm deep and 250mm wide. Big enough to wash hand. That might fit better.
