Simple Payment Collect Gateway E.g. Shopify Lite

We have a group that meets almost every week for a breakfast meeting
20-30 people attending
Need to take an RSVP and payment for breakfast and room hire - roughly $25pp

Does anyone have any experience?
If I can set up a cheap site and direct payments to it with a payment gateway how much will we save?
How difficult will it be?

We are currently using a ticketing site - user friendly and easy but costs are high-ish
Tickets <$25 are $1.50 booking fee per ticket = 6% or more

One option is Shopify Lite
Sell through Social media - we have FB page already
Cost is $9/month then 1.75% + $0.30 on sales

With 800 sales totalling $20K p.a. I figure costs as
Shopify $698 - Ticket Site $1200

Would be glad of any advice if anyone has experience, especially if you have used Shopify Lite

    Is it for commercial purposes? Or just a club/casual/group event?

    What is the preferred method to collect funds? EFT swipe/tap, internet payment prior to the day of meeting?

      Business networking group - but not commercial in it's own right - So basically a social club

      Prefer payment on booking prior to event so we have catering numbers for meals
      but phone app for onsite payment handy if available too

        You can easily do a regular Paypal pool for this. Zero fees.

        Easy to request payments and for everyone to view the current status.

    Could you make them use Beem It? Then have a registration form where their Beem It username was mandatory. Then you could check payments to your Beem It account against the usernames. No fees.

        I've used it a few times and it works well. You could even send out Requests through Beem It the day before to anyone that hasn't paid.
