Selecting a Mattress to Avoid Lower Back Pain

Hi all,

I recently bought a used mattress (as informed about 5 years old king koil medium firm mattress) and started feeling increasing back pain. The mattress seems to be quite pressing/pushing as I lie down (I'm 80 kg). I most sleepy on my back and some times in side as well.

When I remove my pillow while sleeping I feel much better in terms of my back pain. But as I'm used to sleep with a pillow I'm considering to buy a new mattress for a reasonable price.

Could anyone give suggestion for a mattress / pillow? Is it better to see a chiropractor and get his opinion on the mattress ?

Thanks in advance.

Try variations of the yogic locust pose eg. https://www.tummee.com/yoga-poses/locust-pose-crocodile-pose….
I broke lower back in car accident, then had issues cycling. Exercise (running/weights) everyday after yoga warm-up, no ongoing issues (male 61yo). Good luck

    • That position causes me extreme pain, I like to sleep on my stomach as I sleep really well and deeply. But sleeping straight like that hurts like hell. I usually put a pillow under my hips and that feels fine.

  • Sleeping Duck titan firm
Takes a bit of getting used to if you normally have had medium mattresses but great for the back

  • Memory foam mattress (tempur) has helped me. But other factors also helped (exercise, posture, stretches). I suggest seeing a physio over a chiro.

    Good luck!

    • ^This. Focus more on stretches and building up your back muscles. A physio will put you on the right path and aren’t expensive for some good advice.

  • The tv yells at me every night about the super sleeper pro, obviously it must be amazing

  • 5 years old, and originally slept on by who? If they were heavy then frankly the mattress is probably stuffed. (or if the kids used it as a trampoline)

Buying old mattresses apart from being a health risk unless they are properly cleaned, is false economy

  • Thanks guys. Wanted to buy something temporarily initially.

Any suggestions about zzz atelier (ebay) mattress?
