Singapore - Badminton Gear - Where to Buy?

hi all,

Gong to Singapore likely this month and being a short trip it was a perfect time to bring a large hardcase suitcase and stock up on some Badminton racquets, a shoe, and perhaps strings and grips given it is pretty hard to get ahold of at decent prices in aus (online you don't know if it's genuine).

Does anyone have any recommendations on the best shop(s) or areas to purchase a racquet and shoes? After yonex racquets (never tried li nin but may be open to check it out) and also looking for yonex shoes or a li ning shoe selling store. Am also trying to stock up on thin overgrips and strings (BG66 Ultimax mostly) on the cheap.

Any recommendations? Anyone who takes trips there or purchases badminton sporting gear who can recommend?

PReferably anything closeby to Marina Bay sands or likely staying near Courtyard by Marriott in Novena area.

Thanks.

This so sounds like a Dorothy Dixer question. So I will give a politician response.

I would like to thank the member for Singapore for their question.

OzBargain has a sister site sister site cheapcheaplah.com. CheapCheapLah is Singapore's hottest bargain hunting community, where deals , coupon codes, vouchers, special …

Cheapcheaplah also has a forum where you can post questions.

    • Thanks.I'll check it out, would like to avoid creating another user account just to ask the one question but i guess it would give a more local aspect to it.. jut thought there'd be some sport purchasing tourists/shoppers here who have already done their research and goto haha. Thanks anyway!

  • Queensway Shopping Centre, Queensway
    &
    Velocity Mall, Novena Square

    • Thanks. Is there specific store in those shopping centres or square?

      • I'm not into badminton, so can't specifically advise. However Queensway is an old and tired mall (actually Singapore's first mall) where the ground floor is mainly sports stalls, all sports. Major brands and good prices as they tend to sell last seasons stock. They also have repairs, restringing etc…..worth a look you'll always find something.
Velocity at Novena Square is a modern mall, retail prices are similar/slightly cheaper here to Aus, but when on sale or an outlet store the discounts can be deep.

        • Thanks! Im happy with last year's shoes I'm just after a good li ning or yonex one for spares….racquets is abit harder though as i just want a good racquet and the mainstream stuff isnt always last year's stock.

Out of the two which would you recommend going to?

Australia tends to have not much badminton gear being a minority sport so im happy to even get racquets etc. That are retail or only slightly cheaper than aus rrp as i just want to actually buy something back.

  • Do a search on cheapcheaplah, link is at the bottom of every ozbargain page.

Yonex is a Japanese brand and its not cheap. Singapore isn't renowned for being a cheap place to shop either.

Dont have high expectations if your shoe size is more than 28.5cm.

    • never heard of this sister site, I'll check it out. The other reason also is if it's akin to ozbargain then finding a deal would be different to where the locals or in the know tourists generally head to (might not be an ozbargain place at the time but in general just the "goto" place).

Unfortunately I have no idea what my shoe size is in cm but presumably that is nowhere near the size 10 UK/11US i am circa…. :(

      • Measure your foot with a ruler for sure!
Yes check that sister site and see if there are any outlets offering last years' shoes.

  • Queensway Shopping Centre

Peninsular Shopping Centre (but not sure if the stores there are still around)
