  • This or Artisan?

    • +7

Totally this with a more powerful motor and better internal components.

    • +3

      This.

It’s either this or a Kenwood Chef.

I’m usually in the Kenwood Chef camp because they offer a better mixer than the Artisan at a better price (especially for heavy work like yeast doughs).

But at this price you can have both the looks and the performance.

      • +2

Kenwood Chef - 1000W motor - $329 at Good Guys
Kenwood Chef XL - 1200W motor - $399 at Good Guys
        KitchenAid KPM5 - 315W motor - $449 (plus vegetable sheeter)

At my local store they were offering one free attachment with the Kenwoods, including a food processor attachment, blender, and pasta roller and cutter, which I reckon would be a lot more useful to most people than a vegetable sheeter.

Just throwing this out there. I’ve never owned a stand mixer and can’t speak to how any of these products actually perform.

        • +1

The Kitchenaids do better than their wattage suggests. But Kenwood still outperform them in general.

For the true test, look at the ratings for yeast doughs. Even the basic Chef will do 2.2kg (in practice if you can fit it in the bowl you can knead it). The Artisan recommends a maximum of 1.15kg… the smaller motor really starts to show.

The higher-end Bowl Lift Kitchenaids can do 2.2kg, just like the entry-level Kenwoods. So at this price, you’re only paying $100 more to get comparable performance plus the cachet and looks of the Kitchenaid.

        • What mixer attachment would you spend the $100 store credit at The Good Guys on for the Kenwood? I'm thinking of pulling the trigger on the Kenwood Chef XL.

          • @majik: Probably the food processor attachment or one of the pasta attachments, depending on what suits you better, what you think you’ll get the most use out of.

  • +1

Wow. This is an unbelievable price.

  • crap - was too quick on the KSM160 from TGG

    • +1

at least TGG warranty claim is better than Kogan. ;)

      • Except claims are done through KitchenAid directly and this falls under KitchenAid Australia Warranty.

This deal is mixed up. Product has mixed reviews.

  • +2

I bought this for my life last time it was on sale and came with the ice cream bowl and she seems to enjoy using it. I'm also getting fatter from the bread, brownies, cakes, and other baked things.

    • +13

*life will do that to you :)

  • +1

    Have to be sheetering me!

  • I dont cook enough to justify the excellent offer. thanks OP great find!

  • I wish I didnt already have the smaller models. This is a bargain

    • Couldn't resist. I got that crazy deal from Appliances Online for the mini a while back. It's about to go up on FB marketplace 😀

      • Just sold my classic for $325 purchased for $399 from the good guys.
        Also have an artisan

  • Thank you OP, just grabbed the red one. Such a good buy.

  • Great deal! Thanks OP. Bought a white one. Would be a good idea to mention that you have to add the sheeter to your cart separately, at which point it reverts to $0.

    • +1

Strange, mine got added automatically. Thanks for letting others know they can do this if needed though.

      • Hmmm, the first time it only showed one item in my cart (at least I think so), but I just checked and yes, the sheeter was added automatically.

  • Dicksmith online have the same deal if anyone misses out

    • +2

Kogan bought Dick out a while ago.

      probably the same system now.

    • its the same inventory/warehouse…
      different website/front end.

  • +3

Thanks for this! Got one for the mother in law. Hopefully get some brownie points as well as actual brownies.

  • thanks OP

  • Thanks OP!

  • How is the RRP over a grand? Just google the model, it's this price everywhere. Is this just a case of the RRP being really high but realistically it's always sold lower?

    • RRP of just the mixer is $949. When it's on sale at Costco it's around the $600-$650 mark, sans attachment. It's showing around the $450-$500 mark for the moment only at Kogan/Dick Smith and their eBay stores. More expensive elsewhere.

    • Can you link to the other stores? Dick Smith and Kogan are the same store FYI

  • +1

Crazy cheap price. I've had this model for 9 years now, and it's been awesome. I used to be a pastry chef, and the only thing that has let me down was crappy welding on the bowl, on its locking point and it snapped off ( no complaints with the mixer). This mixer has great power/ torque for heavy doughs. The head tilt KA mixers are toys in comparassion.

  • Perfect for Mother's Day.

Such a shame that I bought my mom an Artisan stand mixer as a Mother's Day gift two years ago… Although I guess she would've had to wait 2 years for this one haha…

    • don't get it wrong, Artisan is better for daily use at home, this Heavy Duty model is more heavier than artisan, and hard to put it in kitchen cupboard.

  • Got hooked, got mixed. Got to say thanks Op.

  • The attachments are all on special on the Kitchenaid website right now.

  • Does this take the normal attachments like for the artisan?

    • If you're talking about the meat grinder etc., yes it does.

  • Thanks OP. Got one for the missus.

  • I've a looked a everywhere for a one cheaper.

    But i a can't a go pasta this deal!

  • +1

This, or 90 x $5 cakes from Woolies?

  • Have they run out of the attachment when i add it to cart only the mixer is there.

  • +1

Cheers, bought for wifes b'day. How cliche!

  • Why can't I see the bonus?

  • Seems like they've sold out of the sheeter?

  • Wattage - Energy efficient 315 watt motor

is that under powered? or am I missing something?

    • +2

Different drive types. The Kenwood Chefs have an indirect drive, so they need a bigger motor to get an equivalent power "at the wheels", so to speak, compared to the KitchenAid direct drive motor.

I'd jump on this but you see enough problems reported in reviews with this model to give me pause, and, well, Kogan. Good luck dealing with any warranty claims.

  • How do you get the bowl out from this? I tried to do this in a department store, and when the whisk was in place the bowl couldn't be easily removed, especially if it was full of batter or whatever, despite the body being raised.

    • +1

You lower the bowel, remove the mixing attachment and then you can lift the bowel out.

      https://youtu.be/BiCjiRU-jlw?t=49

      • Ah, thanks for that. Seems a bit fiddlier than the tilt head one.

        • It is a little, but you're getting a sturdier machine

  • According to Kogan and KitchenAid website, dough hook is not listed in inclusions?

    • +2

Just an administrative error. This model always comes with the dough hook.

      • +1

Can confirm. Got a dough hook.

  • -1

+1 for the pun. You whipped the competition

  • +1

Appears the vegetable sheeter is back in stock for those interested.

    • Looks like it might be back out of stock now

  • OK, Kogan, I'll bite.

I had some credit from a previous purchase, expiring soon.
Then an email for $10 off $250 (which I originally ignored).
Then an email for 10% off Kitchenaid.

About $340 seems like a good deal.

    • Did you manage to get it for that?

      • Yes, hence the "I'll bite".

Will probably sell the sheeter to bring cost down further, unless it has more use than is apparent.

        • Wow, nice work! Unless you reeaally like zucchini lasagne, I'd be selling it 😁

  • Can they send us the vegetable sheeter later if out of stock? Or is it get it now or nothing?

  • Just received mine in mail. Ordered on the 8th and received on the 10th - 2 day turn around! (Paid $5 extra for express shipping)
    Australian power cord too

    • Same, crazy fast!! +1 for Kogan!

    • did you get both items?

  • got the mixer…

still waiting on the sheeter… why separate deliveries…. :(

  • -1

I got mine today, without express delivery. I got the attachment as well.

Although I got the red one I am going to try and return it for a white one to suit my kitchen better.

  • is the deal expired? When i try to add the sheeter, it adds an extra $219, or am i doing something wrong?

  • I purchased last Wednesday night. Vegetable sheeter was out of stock but I still thought it was a good deal. Thurs morning the sheeter was back in stock!! I contacted Kogan & said the sheeter hadn’t added to my order correctly… They are dispatching today and have given me a $20 credit for my inconvenience. Hope this might help someone else!
