Sodastream gas cylinder exchange for Sodaking

I see that Sodaking gas cylinders are cheaper than Sodastream (BigW and Spotlight). Has anyone had any success in exchanging an empty SodaStream gas cylinder for a Sodaking cylinder at either BigW or Spotlight?

top tip - forget doing exchanges.

    buy a 6kg CO2 cylinder from kegland for $83 (+ $19—-$26 delivery), and this adapter for $15

    $98 + $16/$26 delivery = $114$124

a standard refill cylinder is 400grams and from kmart is $19 . so from the 6kg you get 15 refills = $285 worth of kmart refill cylinders.

plus you can refill the 6kg cylinder for between $30 and $60 (depending on where you get it done).

have a read of this thread for sodastream refilling ideas.

    • Have you tried this?

I am curious to try and am wondering how many fills out actually get out.

6000/400 = 15 but when there is only 400g of CO2 left in the larger cylinder there will not be enough pressure to refill the sodastream bottle.

      • I have the 2.4kg version. Ive refilled my small cylinder probably about 5 tumes so far. So a couple of fills left i assume. But its already paid for itself.

The last 400grams. I assume you would end up with 200grams as the pressure equals out

Why i really like this method (aside from savings) -And when your small cylinder runs out half way through a drink then you just top it up and go again. Rather than havong to go out and exchange. Very convenient

  • Spotlight were happy to take my empty Sodastream cylinders and exchange for full Sodaking cylinders. I was actually going to buy a Sodaking cylinder outright when I noticed a sign on the shelf saying that they'd exchange any brand cylinder for a refill. I refill my own cylinders using a 6kg tank from KegLand but wanted the Sodaking cylinders as these are quicker and easier to refill than the Sodastream ones.
