Water Pressure Regulator?

Hi All,

We've been having constant problems due to the high water pressure from our mains water line. To put context, our house is located at the end of a road on a bottom of a hill, which created a lot more pressure compared to ones on the top of the hill.

Our neighbour is also having the same problem and have to constantly replace fittings as they start leaking fairly regularly.

My question is, is there any type of regulator/valve which we can put in-line to reduce/regulate the pressure that comes into our house?

Appreciate your feedback :)

    Yes.

You want a 500kpa pressure reducing valve. It goes after the water meter.

    • Cheers,

      Any particular brand?

Plumber's job so they will supply.

They pretty much all do the same thing- https://plumbingsales.com.au/logi-pr20-pressure-reducing-val…

Even though it's a plumbers job, I'd have a crack at it. However, it doesn't sound like you know much about plumbing so let the plumber supply and install.

        • Thanks JB1,

Just wanted to find out what products are the best to use :)

        • No what you should be telling him is to live stream it as an educational tool

You should have a main isolation valve at the front of your property or at the meter or inside the house, coupled of turn back should do the trick. $0

Wouldn't that change the volume but maintain the pressure?

Ie. The pressure would still be the same when all fittings are shut.

      • Yes but adds a restriction, for my place we had really bad water hammer due to excessive pressure. Reducing volume helped eliminate water hammer (rapid pressure fluctuations) and thus less leaks over time from fitting copping a beating.

        • It's only a partial fix. I'd add a regulator to your set up too.

Slowing down the problem is never acceptable with plumbing. All you need is a tiny little drip in your wall and you'd be kicking yourself.

    • Ha ha, thanks for this.
Yes I already tried this, but due to being at the end of the mains water line the pressure builds up and passes into our internal lines when not in use even with the tap opened only 1/4th.

With isolation valve on 1/4th opened, the moment we open a tap the water bursts through and then slows down to the expected level.

      • Sounds like really excessive pressure. JB1 had your solution then.

    • This won't help at all. You will only reduce the flow rate, not the pressure.

Check with your local water authority to see if they have a maximum allowable pressure at the meter and if they exceed that they may be required to do something on their side.

If it is a known high pressure area they may already have a Pressure Reducing Valve (PRV) in the network in your area that they can adjust.

Failing all that get a plumber to install on your side of the meter.

    • Thanks Bazzato,

      Will check on this.
