  No, it has nothing to do with single or dual channel.

  1R means it is a single-rank module and 2R means it is a dual-rank module.

  1Rx8 means the memory chips are on one side of the RAM module and 2Rx8 means the memory chips are on both sides of the RAM module.

    Ranks are not about chips on 1 side or 2 sides

    You can get single rank module with chips on both sides

    it has nothing to do with single or dual channel.

    Motherboard has limit on no. of ranks per channel

  Dual channel support is your motherboard
