Opinions - Should I Churn to Exetel?

Hello World,

Currently with Aussie Broadband on a $59.95 deal after Mungi Internet died.

The special deal is about to expire and the cost will jump to the regular $79.95 per month. I dont want to pay the extra $20 really…and the only equivalent plan I could find is with Exetel.

So…should I jump ship? Is the extra $20 with Aussie Broadband worth it or is Exetel good enough?

Thoughts??

Been with the for over 15 yrs… no complaints at all.

    • Thanks for that.

They do seem to have a number of negative reviews.

      • do you stream a lot? Or download?
some have mentioned their connection throttled when downloading
exetel say they're optimized foe streaming

        • I probably stream more than download.

  • No they're hopeless.

  • Same boat. I jumped to kogan. I was thinking about DCSI for 500gb as well but decide tonKogan

  • It's not until something breaks that Aussie really stands above the crowd…

Had a issue with our home connection, simultaneously with our work one that's also with Aussie. Simultaneous NBN dropouts? It's not the copper. Rang, talked to an Australian tech in under 2 mins who could instantly see that our local PoI had just dropped offline for everyone! They began to investigate.

Status updates on their website were updated hourly; right down to specifics including "3rd party (Telstra Wholesale) fibre card uplink to PoI has died; tech enroute with part from SYD airport, eta 6 hours". That's the transparency I really appreciate from a provider - it's not just "We're aware of an issue!"

Premium product for a premium service. More expensive yes - but definitely not overvalued (cough Telstra cough).

    • I had the exact opposite problem with Aussie BB. No notification of outages, refusal of compensation, wishy washy answers…

if your line is solid then go with exetel

  • Am with MyRepubic for $65 a month on 50 plan. No issues so far, although most people on Ozb will say you have to stick with ABB for support. I've had nothing buy good support from MyRepublic

  • Do it. Mate same situation as you:

    1. Apply but don't finish/pay
    2. Wait a couple of days for $20 credit email, which will offset the modem delivery fee
    3. You have to call Exetel if the link won't work for the $20 credit. Ask the rep to apply the $20 credit now. They'll ask you to email the proof email of the $20 credit. Don't worry, the Sales line has a very short wait time
    4. Don't cancel AB until the churn is done
    5. Your debit card will be charged a dollar, which will be credited on your first bill
    6. Modem will be sent to you. The modem is already setup
    7. Mate received the modem on the same day the fhurn was done. So you could be offline for half a day
    8. If you're tech savvy, you can use an old modem and set it up using the details sent by Exetel
    9. Enjoy

For some reason, some of the games we play with AB suffers a connection server issue. Never had that problem with Exetel. Also, no drop outs experienced with Exetel so far. AB connection will have 10 drop outs a day.

    • What $20 credit email are you referring to if I may ask?

  • Been with them for past 8 months..Had an issue only once when tried calling the customer care and was on wait for 45 mins and the issue resolved on its own. Very happy with the speed and price.

  • Switch to them after being with Telstra Cable for years, 2 days later found out had to move in 60 days, not something i could control

Called Exetel and was going to get charge $250 for cancellation plus new set up fees as they have cancel and then reorder it, got a little mad and 20 mins later they decided to waive the early cancellation fee and put us on a new plan for a $20 set up fee

Plus the plan we were on has first 2 months free, overall gotten 2 months free at my current place and 2 months free at new place for 2 x Set Up fees totaling $40 for 4 months of NBN

There not as good as Telstra cable for speed but are a lot cheaper, no really problems with them

TLDR - got a little mad and Excetel is actually pretty good

Not sure if that helped at all
