Looking for Budget Android under $250

As per the topic, my friend is looking for a budget Android phone, something under $250. She mainly just uses it for WhatsApp and a few other similar messaging apps and to make calls/send sms etc.

I looked at the list of recommend budget phones but most seem to be out of her price range, except for the Moto G6 Play. Also, would prefer something that won't take ages to arrive, so that rules out places like Aliexpress and Gearbest that take forever to send.

Sometimes Aliexpress have DHL shipping which takes less than half a week. If you can find that for an affordable price you should definitely get the Xiaomi Mi A2

  • No… you are NOT looking for a phone… found it :)

Use the tool on the left to work out what features you want, pay particular attention to the bands. Remember, some brands have quite high SAR.

Scroll through, it tells you the suppliers even as well as price history. Knowing the margins I usually just bump the shipping on Aliexpress up. The big sellers post quick and often.

    Good luck :)

  • Price
    Support
    Durability
    Specifications
    Feature-set

    Pick 3.

    • Can feature set include all the others?

      • Nope, Feature-set is more like the tangibles;
…..front-firing stereo loudspeaker, noise-cancelling mics, headphone jack, QuadDAC, FM Radio, IrDa, OIS, microSD, dualSIM, USB 3.1-C, Super-fast charging, Wireless charging, NFC, Ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, etc etc.

There are seemingly "flagship" device that remove some or most of these features, or downgrade them significantly. However, people never look for these on a spec-sheet, so they assume its there but are practically tricked.

Specifications handles things like Front/Rear Camera performance, Display performance, Processor performance, and Battery stats.
Durability relies on things like Water Resistance, Shock Absorption, Fragility, Repairability, and Long-term ownership.
Support looks into the firmware polish, software updates, hardware parts, and customer service.
And Price, the largest factor, is self-evidently about upfront ownership and on-going costs for owners.

A device would be VERY exceptional if it can even almost excel at Four of these attributes. Some only excel on Three attributes, and there are plenty of devices that can barely muster excelling at only Two attributes.

    • Price, Durability, Support. Don't think she cares much for features and specifications.

Maybe Sharp Aquos S3 with express shipping.

  • Oppo A73 or similar is a no brainer! Facial and fingerprint recognition is super fast and accurate!

Nokia 6.1. Android one so it gets monthly security updates. For Android, the software is as important as the hardware.

  • She likes the look of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 and it's within her budget AU$235.67 with coupon at Banggood, so might just get that, thanks everyone for your help.

  • Huawei y5 $99 at coles or woolies

    • Already did mate, unfortunately the only rated phones seem to be out of her price range or not suitable
