      You like cheap dates?

    • +3

Or from ALDI for $2.70 a kg.

    • +1

Which Disney song goes with "Coles dates" though.

      • +1

Down down, dates going down 😂

      • +2

Its in the scene where Jasmine and Aladdin walk into Coles singing a whole new world

        • +1

          Da area!

  • zilch at my local Wollies!

    • My local Woolies were sneaky and had expensive ones at the front asked a staff member who directed me to isle 18 and there was a shelf full of these

  • +5

    Are they out of date?

    • +3

No, these are the type you take on a blind date

    • +1

      Are they out of date?

      They taste like they are…

      • +5

Agreed these are the dry type of dates.

Medjool dates are the juicy type…love the juicy type

    • Probably had a "Best Before:" on them though…

  • +3

How do these compare to medjool dates? Same?

    • Each of these are half the size of the jools and skin is a little dry but worth it

    • +1

Yeah, I got all excited thinking they were Mejdools.

The website doesn't help with the thousands of "premium" varieties. I just want to know if it's got that chewy caramel texture.

    • +4

How do these compare to medjool dates? Same?

Nowhere near the same, based on what I just tasted.
These are really dry, and not even as tasty as the Coles, Woolies, or Aldi budget dates.

I just want to know if it's got that chewy caramel texture

I can confirm that they do NOT have a "chewy caramel texture", and not the soft caramel marshmallow of really good dates either.

If you like dates, look for King Solomon Dates. They are huge and taste better than any other I have found in Australia

      https://www.ebay.com/itm/Premium-QUALITY-Medjoul-Natural-DAT…

Have a look for them in independent fruit shops, cost about $20 for 1 kg

      • +1

King Solomon Dates are nasty, overpriced and produced in Isrehell

        • Yes they are from Israel. Hence 'King Solomon'.

If you can find someone else selling the same ones for less, I will gladly support them

  • coles have for $6

  • Saw some this evening at Eight Mile Plains QLD

    • did u buy??? are they any good??

  • Any store in brisbane stocking folks know…. About…

  • +6

I just purchased a few packs, and I am disappointed.
These are quite dry, and not as good as many of the budget dates.
Additionally, the budget dates are normally seedless, whereas with these you are paying for seeds as well.
Coles and Woolies 500g Pitted Dates, at under $2 a pack, are a better buy than these, in my humble opinion.

  • +3

Quality is crap. I bought last week and returned in 5 minutes

    • I will be doing the same…

If these are "Premium Arabian Dates", I hate to think how bad "Regular Arabian Dates" dates could be.

      • +1

        "Regular Arabian Dates"

        These will keep you regular.

    • +1

      crap… in 5 minutes…

They have a natural laxative effect…

  • -2

    Can these be grilled ?

    • They are so dry, they could probably be used to start a fire, and grill other foods…

      • Shame, I love hot dates…

  • +5

If you are looking for a good arabian dates, save your money and don't buy these one. There are different types of dates. The best ones are Sukkari or Khalas. You can find these type of dates in the Arabian supermarkets, usually they are between $6-$12/kilo

    • +6

      in the Arabian supermarkets

Arabia is a long way away though…

      • +2

never heard arabian supermarkets. are they a new franchise

    • +2

If you have tasted Ajwa, Anbara or safawi varities, you wouldn't even go close to Sukkari n khalas. Sukkari n Khalas are the cheapest ones you can get in the middle east. If i remember correct, these used to sell for ~$4, but ajwa or safawi were around $24.

      • How does Shishi compare to others?

        • Shishi gets you regular and helps you stay that way

      • Where can one get these varieties in Oz?

  • -3

I have a date to get my date checked at the Dr's today I might get a packet of these dates to thank the good Dr that would be date for my date with a packet of dates.

  • Rumour has it that Woolworths burnt down now it's just Coles.

  • +3

The quality is crap. Had to spit out a few of them -_- . Big NO! Even the cheap Queen’s Diamond Dates taste way better and at least, edible.

  • These are ok, dryish and not to sweet.

  • +1

Not worth the hype. Very bad quality. Don’t waste your money
