Buying New Tyres 265/70R16 for Mitsubishi Challenger

Hi everybody! I'm thinking about changing my Mitsubishi Challenger tyres and I've heard about few affordable brands. I'm in Townsville (QLD) at the moment and the cheapest options are: Roadstone, Supercat (by Bridgestone) and Nexen. All of them would be all terrain tyres. The idea is to buy tyres that allow me to drive on highway and do a little bit of off road.

I read bad reviews about Supercat, especially when it comes to drive on wet surfaces. I found few infos about Nexen and Roadstone, and they don't seem to be very good ones as well.

I would spend more for good tyres, but I don't have a lot of money right now and I will sell the car in 7 months or less. I've been told to keep the tyres that I have right now (old ones but not too bad for now) and maybe buy new ones in Brisbane where they might be cheaper.

What do you think about it?

Do you need new tyres or not? Why would you buy new ones if the ones on it are fine, and you are going to be selling soon anyway?

    Dunlop grandtrek are reasonable priced.

Try Federal Couraga AT… cheap but at least a reputable known brand. I have had 2 sets. You may have to buy a different size but as long as they fit, no problem.

  • It's a bit hard to comment without knowing specifics like budget, tyre model and what they have quoted you. It's even hard to tell if you actually need tyres.

Townsville and other FNQ cities will always be expensive due to transport costs and lack of competition.

Have you priced any of the online offerings like SCA tyres or Tyroola?

Your tyre size (Eg 265/75/R16) and load rating (111T) <- 111 load rating T=speed rating is also important.

Given your location try TyresSales (Currently have an ozbargain thread of additional $50/2 tyres (can do two transactions for $100/4tyres)
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/449719

TyreSales will ship to local fitter (fitting is included in the tyresales price. (some offer freebies to get the work from tyreSales like car cleans/wheel alignment etc)

I've been searching for a while and TyreSales has consistently beaten most local dealers in Brisbane (yokohamas, pirellis, hankook AT's I was checking out). Tyres and More beat them but only barely and only because they're a premium Yokohama dealer. The freebie wheel alignment with TyreSales package was actually $35 cheaper as a package, I just don't need it.
