Phone Holder - Windscreen Mount with Charging

Just after some recommendations for a windscreen mount phone holder. Wireless charging not essential but I'm happy to pay a bit extra to get it

Leaning towards this one. Fairly expensive but being able to get asap is appealing. Reviews which complain about charging not working if it gets too hot from sun which is a bit worrying.

This is what we use in our work cars, then we byo cable to stick in the USB slot. It actually works really well.

  • I'd check out some of the Baseus mounts. That's what I've started using!

    • I looked at those but the suction mount was $70+ . Their Vent mount are much cheaper.

  • If you are worried about heat from the sun, can I ask why it has to be a windscreen mount?
A dash or vent mount would be a better option (and is also safer as they don't block any part of the windscreen)

    • +1

I prefer up at the windscreen so it’s as close to my field of vision as possible (without obstructing).

Heat isn't a major concern, unless the mount/charger struggles more than my phone. Phone occasionaly shuts off on really hot days but not often enough that's it's a big deal.

If you can't see via the link, the review suggests that the Strike Alpha cradle is superior but more $$$.

    • cheers. I'd need a more universal holder than the strike. Needs to work with different phones and be able to handle phone in wallet case preferably. (although the case probably means the wireless charging wont work)

  • I use Quad Lock and they are very good.

    • Neat but too expensive for me, and I'm not 'active' enough to get much benefit from the range of mounts available. Mrs and I swap cars a bit so I'd need 2 phone cases + 2 windscreen mounts so ~$260 all up.

  • For your next car consider getting one with apple carplay and Android auto

  • +1 for Strike. They also make universal holders if that's what you're after, OP.

    • I'd only seen the make/model specific ones so thanks a lot for pointing that out.

The Strike TR looks almost identical to the holders we already have, bought at officeworks, ~$30 5+ yrs ago IIRC. Can't recall brand but it says Made in Germany, has patent numbers and says TR design so I suspect the Strike is just a different branded version of what I've already got.

One of the clamp fingers just broke but the Strike TR seems to have addressed the weakness. Otherwise they've been good.

The cradle to mount attachment seems the same so I can probably just buy a new cradle and use existing suction mount. Even just the cradle is $39 delivered though :(

  • Whatever you get, make sure it doesn’t obstruct your vision of the road - that is the most important thing to see, not the phone.

  • Thanks for the replies all.

I’m sorted for the time being. Found a holder for $5 at Aldi. Intended for a pram but I’ve been able to mcguyver it onto my old mount.
