Salary Sacrificing a Laptop without Company Involvement

Per OP, is this practical or even possible?

The company I work for is dragging it's feet to implement Salary Sacrifice as they don't want to offer anything that a) costs them anything or b) takes administration effort to look after. We've been looking at 3rd parties to run it for us, but they've either not been interested (we're only ~60 people in Australia) or charge fees that are exorbitant.

Hence wondering if it's possible to arrange outside of directly by my company. There are about a half dozen employees, myself included, that are wanting to sacrifice laptops, which we'd be eligible for and aren't a FBT according to the ATO.

Failing that, does anyone have a company that they can recommend that I can pass to my employer to look at?

Thanks.

    • Thanks, I'll ask my company to reach out.

Just buy it yourself and claim back the usage at tax time? (not an accountant)

  • Probably easiest and cheapest way to do it is to buy it and claim it on tax return. You'll need to depreciate it over 2 years though

  • Thanks for the advice. Buying and claiming back is ultimately my last resort, combined with claiming TRS as well. Whilst I be saving some money with a tax refund, it's quite the same as the amount saved if done pre tax, hence wanting to do it as the last resort.

  • I'd be very careful with the TRS claim. TRS stands for Tourist Refund Scheme. You are not a tourist in your own country.

    • Unsure why you were negged? Is this not the case?
