Is it safe to say that the ASA has done bugger all so far but produce merchandises and rack up travel expenses?

I suspect you're correct. I feel sorry for children in Australia who aspire to be astronauts or fighter pilots or anything in high tech fields or engineering etc as there are bugger all opportunities compared to other countries.

On the other hand if they want to remove rubbish, wait at tables, unload ships or hold a stop/slow sign there are many oppurtunities.

ASA should offer Woomera as free launch site for anyone wants to launch rockets. 1000Kms to east and west of pretty empty space to land the first stage and transport it back on a truck.

  • Didn't know that we had a space agency.
How many space rockets have we sent up?

    • If we're to stupid to build submarines or trains that most exclude us from building rockets.

    • Zero.

We've had one Australian in space, back in the 80s, but the Americans made him change his citizenship before they'd let him go to space.

(They don't do that to the Malaysians/Canadians/English/Russians/Germans/Japanese they fly).

      • To be fair, we've had two astronauts - yes, Scully-Power had to renounce his Australian Citizenship when joinning the NASA program (as did everyone at that point in time) before the US Govt changed tact. And then there was Andy Thomas, who flew as an Australian.

  • Fair comment….so begs the question……why do we have a space agency. Another waste of taxpayers money?

I don't understand the negativity in this post - the ASA was founded under a year ago to get us a leg up into the space industry of the future.

It all sounds very much like an episode of the ABC's Utopia
